Hello Steeno, Welcome to the Forum. My observation is your comments are a bit lacking in context, but I'm in no way doubting your sincerity. As a suggestion, you may get further if you took time to establish the "why and where" you're coming from- scripturally. In other words, lay out your argument and reasoning with support from scripture. With that in place, there might be a better foundation upon which to have a more fruitful discussion. "How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?" Hebrews 10:29 In all honesty we are talking about the whole Bible here. One or two verses will hardly do it justice. |

Hello Steeno, Brother, I'm not able to follow your line of reasoning based on the extremely brief replies you're providing?! Can you explain what you mean by, "we are talking about the whole Bible here"? I'm not asking that you recite the entire Bible! I'm also not trying to pull teeth, but your last response is completely lacking context. Simply quoting Heb. 10:29 hardly answers the question! Would you be able to clearly elucidate and explain your postion/view on forgiveness giving some examples of scripture? Are you able to do so? I understand the finality of the cross and the fact that we are forgiven in Christ. However, if we are to understand what you're saying and arrive at any meaningful dialog, you'll have to help us out:-) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

It's not my line of reasoning, it is God's truth. We all know what the Bible says, and all have their own interpretation of what it means. But, without the illumination of the Holy Spirit, it is impossible to truly know what it means. Is this not obvious from the various meanings people derive? It's very simple...We are not forgiven because of anything we do, we are forgiven because of Christ's shed blood on the cross. There is nothing we can do to "activate" that forgiveness. It was God's initiative, He consulted no one, he did not ask if you wanted it, He simply did it. If you choose to believe that you are not forgiven, that is your choice, but it in no way changes what Jesus accomplished on the cross. You are still forgiven. This is the example set forth throughout the Old Testament, with the sacrifice of animals. Jesus is the perfect lamb, who takes away the sins of the whole world. The Father accepts His Sons sacrifice as propitiation for our sins. He places our sins behind His back never to see them again. Not because of anything we have done...but because of what His Son has done. We forgive because we are forgiven. |

Steeno: Thank you for trying to clarify. My friend, I'm not necesarily challenging what you're saying, I'm simply trying to get you to cite the specific scriptures and build a logical, well-reasoned case from them... but as I said, I'm not trying to pull teeth:-) Eph 1:7- "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace" (NASB) Col 2:13 - "When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions," Col 3:13- "bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you." Brother, I recognized you as such instantly. You know as well as I do that there will be those who will pick apart the verses you quoted, and then come back with verses that appear to contradict them. What does this accomplish? Words express thoughts. The words contained in the Holy Scriptures express the thoughts of God. The Bible is the mind of God. We can all read the words, even unbelievers, does that mean we all know the mind of God? If I use words that express the truth of God, are they any less valuable? If there is truth in them, do they not also originate with God? Is it the words that are valuable, or the thought behind the words that is valuable? Just a thought :) |

For a little biblical perspective on the matter, see Deuteronomy 8:4, Matthew 4:4 and Isaiah 55:8-9. Steve |
