I have noticed that many churches across America have (to me anyway) no semblence of a house of worship. I'm told that they are intentionally designed this way so that "unchurched" people will not feel threatened when they walk in. We have music that blasts as loud as rock concerts, drums, guitars, lights and sound sytems to rival any concert hall, comfortable seats, ample parking, and even food courts(!) It's all in the packaging, so I'm told . . . our job is to get 'em in the door, make 'em feel welcome and "at home" so that they can "hear the Gospel" and the Holy Spirit will do the rest. Is this meeting the needs of the world or "conforming" to the world? Is this necessary to reach the world with the Gospel? |

Mommapbs ... Makarios post caught my eye ....... As I was responding to him, I thought two things 1 - Most Christians do not understand "worship". They forget that is being prostrate before the Lord God, with the view that He has absolute rule over us. We even try to bring Him down to our level ... user friendly 2 - Some churches are becoming a "den of thieves". They want to make money, a profit ... or at least some leaders/ministries do. Where is their heart? ... Are they willing to go start a church with less people and funds or be part of a smaller church? What if God changed His call for them ... where He wants them ... would they move? To your post ... I think it is about the feeling. Searcher |

Good Morning Searcher56 - You have observed some important points; I also liked your reply to Larry. I agree, we have made the Lord "user friendly" with the emphasis on "user." This disturbs me, for I perceive a lack of understanding of God's AWESOME HOLINESS in our midst. As I consider this, the love of God and the forgivness I have in Christ becomes even MORE AMAZING! We deprive people of this when we make Jesus too "familiar." Can one really worship a friend? Is God our friend? (I'll post this as a question) As I see it, there is a big problem with the lack of discipleship in many churches. The result of an encounter with Jesus should produce a changed life - we should see the body functioning as God designed it - each one using his/her gifts for mutual edification. 1 Cor 14:12 Sadly, as you have observed, some "gifts" are deemed more important than others . . . Prov 19:26 Blessings on your day! mommapbs |

"Is God our friend?" John 15:13-15 (ESV) Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends. [14] You are my friends if you do what I command you. [15] No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. NASB James 2:23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God. |

Great verses Kalos, indeed we can be friends of God, but is HE ever called OUR friend? I struggling a bit with the "familiarity" we seem to bring into our relationship with God as opposed to intimacy. | ||||||

Scripture ... John 15:13-15 ... The disciples got to that level ... also do you think the following fits? "Have you not just now called to Me, 'My Father, You are the friend of my youth" (Jer 3:4)? |
