D Blesser You said "As long as you are praising him." (Him being God added for clarification) Now we are at the crux of this discussion. If God is being worshipped your right, however what Hank, New Creature and myself are contending is that the worship of God isn’t the primary focus. What we are saying has become the primary focus is pleasing the audience. Therefore the songs aren’t worship songs exalting God but are songs that are really exalting and praising the people singing them. Listen to the words that are being sung. In many many cases the song is all about the people singing them rather than God. Drama isn’t being used to reveal peoples sin, showing them their need for salvation and Jesus as the only way to that salvation. In most of the drama the audiences sense are be titillated in a effort to evoke an emotional reaction from them. In other words they are not being brought to a place of conviction of their sin by the Holy Spirit but rather had their emotions manipulated to evoke a sense of sorrow, lost, regret, horror and even anger. The visual effects are not being used to capture their vision to be then focused on Christ but rather the effects are being used to stipulate and excite the senses, in an effort to build a desire for more. If God is being properly worshipped I don’t think God cares how it is done. He said if we won’t worship Him the rocks would. However we can not assume just because it is done in church, that is proper worship of God. In many cases today it is anything but the worship of God. EdB |

Amen EdB - when the "worship team" or the choir finishes singing what it the response? Usually it is applause. I think I've expressed myself on this point before but . . . I understand that there are those who are genuinely moved to clap in praise FOR God, but mostly, it seems to be offered in appreciation for the efforts of the singers. Why don't we break out into wild applause when the repentant one walks the aisle? Just wondering. mommapbs |

There is a point at which we do this in our church, besides after a moving song, and that's when someone follows the Lord in baptism. I don't know about the rest of our congregation but it brings tears to my eyes and I always thank the Lord. | ||||||

Greetings CDBJ - Yes, I can relate to that too. I'd not want to convey that I'm part of the "frozen chosen"! There are indeed times that I am so overcome that I can't even utter a note but magnify the Lord in my heart. And at times, I find myself just "going with the flow," - which causes me angst. I guess I long for the Day when we will all be prostrate at His feet! Holiness demands a response, and God will have it HIS WAY. What I see is man's attempt to worship God as we "see Him," which may or may not be as He IS! All too often, there is a familiarity present that diminishes MY ability to see the Lord as "high and lifted up." (I guess it must be a personal problem that I will have to let the Lord work out for me!) Blessings, mommapbs |

Often when we sing, in church, I get choked up praising the Lord because God’s grace blows my mind, that He has chosen someone like me, to reveal the truth about His Son too. I tell my wife that I think when I sing that it must make my nose run; you know the resonance and all? I always manage to pull my handkerchief out some time during the song service. You know, guys don’t get emotional like the ladies do, oops! Praise the Lord, CDBJ |
