Hi Cuddle, I guess I didn’t get my thought across: sometimes I get my tongue in front of my eyeteeth and I can’t see what I’m trying to say. I’m not against singing by any stretch of the imagination; it’s just what I think has gone overboard in the way of too much singing, taking the place of good exegetical teaching of God’s Word. The verse you suggested, Matthew 26:30 And after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. This one verse doesn’t indicate that over half of Christ ministry, spent here on Earth, was dedicated to the practice of singing with the disciples. When they were finished they sang (A) song, indefinite article, meaning one. I guess I’m from the old school and I really can’t get into the modern “foot stompen, ge-tar twangen, clippoty cloppen, hand clapping stuff. I still get choked up when I hear, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God or The Battle Hymn of the Republic, Rock of Ages and such. I think we’re getting a little of course from the original thought but I have enjoyed venting in your direction and don’t let us old duffs slow you down! All of my kids, five of them from 37 to 48 are believers in Christ and their church services don’t edify me all that much when I visit. I think Paul might have forgotten to include song leaders in the following list; I jest! Ephes. 4:10-16 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) [11] And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, [12] for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; [13] until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fulness of Christ. [14] As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; [15] but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the head, even Christ, [16] from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by that which every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. Again I hope you enjoy the forum and; 1 Thes. 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. CDBJ |

CDBJ, LOL That is okay we are all guilty of the same thing at times. I understand and agree with you about the excess of music. I will admit I do enjoy contemporary Christian Music, but I would like less of it in the service, that is why I buy CD's of the music I like. ; ) I think I should remind you however of David prancin' around....just giving you a hard time. Thank you for your comments, I welcome them. Someone read what I wrote in my second post without reading how I defined church in my first post and really let me have it about defining church...you should go back in the answer logs. So trust me, my first day on this forum thing has been interesting to say the least! God Bless In HIS Service, Cuddle |

Hi Cuddle, In the period of time, however long it may be, that you have been studying God’s Word, the Bible; what is the most fascinating and exciting promise that God has revealed to you? That would be interesting, CDBJ |

I wish I could narrow it down to one, but I cannot. I think one word could cover everything...LOVE. What makes it difficult, is that even those of the world love.(Luke 6) The depth of LOVE when we beign to experience love from the Lord covers every aspect of life. Our thoughts, actions, habbits, what, who, where; it,love, is consuming. When we act outside of the experience of His Love and we give way to our flesh we realize more and more our NEED for HIM. Paul discusses this battle, and when I first began to study, I did not understand what he meant, and I am not sure I fully do today, but I do feel like I have experienced the struggle. I could list all types of things I have learned that are applicable, logical, and even awesome topics for discussion, but once they have been examined the common denominator will be LOVE. I know it use to anger me when I would hear people talk about the God of anger in the OT and the God of love in the NT. (those who believe the NT is the only one that matters) This would bother me because I do not believe God enjoyed destroying Sodom and Gomorah or drowning the earth or the death one human in battle. If we are going to accept ALL Scripture as beneficial(2 Timothy 3), we need to see that He did give chance after chance, discipline after discipline(or as I like to explain to my teenage daughter"grounding after grounding"). These were all in love. It was and is the human free will that chose and still chooses these measures of detruction. (Habakkuk 2:12-14) The justness of God would be a lie if He did not enforce His expectations. Love would be incomplete if it were not just, and the Lord is NOT in-complete. My rambling may seem child like and I am sorry if my response is not as deep or theoretical as a response some of the other people on this forum may give you, but my approach to Bible study is child like. I am HIS child, and while I do learn from the words and examples of people, the TRUTH I learn is from the Holy Spirit. Greetings Cuddle, It sounds like you’ve done some extensive Bible studying as have many on this forum. Here is a monumental question that I enjoy asking people, and hearing the various responses. With all of your biblical endeavors and studying, can you say for certain, without a shadow of doubt, that you have come to the place where you have eternal life? I guess what I’m asking is, do you know for certain that heaven is a sure thing as far as you’re concerned? How would you answer that, in your own words? x CDBJ |

CDBJ, I know this is another simple and child like response, but I have only been a part of the forum for a few days; I got off on the wrong foot, and I am trying really hard to observe from the side lines to learn "how deep" I can go in answering questions, how much of my "opinion" I can include in my answers, and so forth, without being offensive to others in the forum or being offended myself to a response I may get from a post. I am not a "scholar" (though I am working on it) so until I am more comfortable with what is expected in this forum, my answers may not be what you would like as far as depth. I like being asked and asking, but again, I am still getting a feel for things. With all of that said,...John 3:16, and if you have a concordance or Greek to English dictionary, or some tool such as this(assuming you are not fluent in Greek), do a word study of the word BELIEVE. This I feel is a beginning at least, to answering your question. Please keep them coming. This way I get to participate in the forum and "get my feet wet" I will say It is strictly opinion, that we each experience a comfort and confidence in our relation with the Lord during different seasons of our life. Our experiences are what usually shape that comfort and assurance in our relationship with God. When we study His Word we gain a higher comfort level and dependance on His promises to those who BELIEVE. If you choose to take my advice and do a word study, please remember to check the tense of the word BELIEVE. I know it is sometimes time consuming to reflect on grammer as far noun, verb, adverb, etc., but it is worth it when we realize how much more we understand of this grand love letter of spoken communication to each of us from our Heavenly Father. Hi Cuddle, That’s an interesting lengthy statement but you completely neglected to answer my question. Forget all of the forum protocol stuff just relax and be yourself, and tell me if you have come to the place “yet” where you, “personally” can say “for certain” that you have eternal life or not. There is only one answer and you are the only one on earth that can answer that question “truthfully”. I’ve ask this question to people who have been in the ministry for years and you wouldn’t believe all of the varied answers I heard; it's neat. It’s just a question that sparks my interest. It really isn’t that hard a question, and it’s probably been well over a week since the last time the forum Gestapo broke down someone’s door and tickled them to death with a chicken feather for being truthful. Tell it like it is, I won’t turn you in and besides that my German shepherd ate my black leather rain coat. Yah but they vast going to send me da new von sume day. Have fun, CDBJ |
