Hi, I am attending cell group meetings, I listen to my audio bible as much as I can, I listen to past sermons not only from my church but others as well (thanks to the internet) I participate in church ministries when I am called upon. Thus, I am NOT doing nothing and let God make it happen. God have made me work for His purpose as well. Ephisians 2:8-10 I also have a far longer christian friend than me that who have decks of christian books but never got to know God as he should and have since backslided disillusioned and worn out. I agree many have also sat thru waiting but do they really know why God is not moving them. Have they surrendered in faith in the 1st place? What I am trying to share is be careful that you do not try too hard too fast too much. He will show the way in His own ways and timing. I did not diligently follow the exercises of the two books and yet, I don't think I am stagnant in my growth. I am fed and shaped left ,right ,centre - His ways. I am also blessed when He made me quit smoking after 25 years just outside church grounds. His way, His timing. When I meant not memorizing scriptures, I meant not having to quote the book, chapter and verse number. I know some verses but that's not because I have memorized them but rather undestood them. If not, I won't be able to quote verses (using search engine to get the book, chapter and verse number) to support my sharing. I will still read books whenever I can. Just read with pinches of salt. God Bless |

ngkh I think we are getting off track here. To the best of my knowledge neither book in this discussion advocates mindless memorization of scripture. "Experiencing God" most definitely explains the scripture, giving both illustrations and practical applications while encouraging the reader to memorize the scripture to insure it is alive in their life. The book also supplies testimony of how this scripture when properly applied to ones life will increase and enhance that person's relationship with God and examples of just that occurring in the lives of others. I did not mean to imply you were doing nothing for the Kingdom of God. I just said the position you was 'offering' was a position that many take to justify doing nothing. Interestingly both these books also champion “Cell groups” which seems to be the foundation of the church you attend. I therefore understand your pastor’s desire that they be used in cell group study. Now I’m even more curious of about your dissatisfaction with the book “Experiencing God”. EdB |
