Hi Kalos, If it is any help, my Pastor encouraged memorization of scriptures too. We have bible verses competition too. My point is that for memorising the scripture without understanding is as good as not knowing at all. What is the use of me quoting Matthew 6:5 for e.g. when I don't understand what it means. How many verses titles can I remember? Would it not be easier to know the scriptures by its contents than to try to remember which book, which chapter, which verse. As for me, I listen to a CD called Breathe of God which is full of scriptures. No mentioned of where the scriptures came from. Just scriptures after scriptures. Does that mean that I'm getting wrong feeding just because there are no title mentioned. For me, i.e. me alone, I find that I learn and understand the Word far better this way than if I try to remember the title as well. Constant hearing the scriptures, embed scriptures in my head. Don't need to know where it came from for they are all from God. If I need to dwell further, concordence or my search engine will still get me to where I wanted. Of course it would be nice to quote titles to support a claim. I have been able to do that too. But I still need to know what to search for to get the title, don't I? Even my PDA bible have search capabilities. How can I remember the scriptures when I don't read. My secret is listening to CDs. I spend at least 2 hrs a day in the car. What better time to have a quiet time listening to an audio bible or sermon when you are sitting in a traffic jam. This are just my experiences. It is not suppose to be an alternate means but fact is it worked for me and I am still growing. Cheers |

ngkh,Good day and God bless.I'm relateable to what your saying here. If this is helping you to keep the Word of God embeded in your heart and mind all well and good,Keep on keeping on.But let me encourage you to get your face in the bible every day.We are more apt to retain things when we can see it with our own eyes and take the time we actually need to get it into our hearts.I say this only because I myself have always had to work twice as hard to get things in my head,so I'm grateful for anything that will help me to do that. But I've found over the years that there is no substitute for having the bible right there in front of you.I understand this may be challenging, sometimes I gotta go over things numerous times before I get it,but it always pays off.The time will come when memorizing things will not be the beast that it seems to be.Besides memorization isn't always remembering something verbatum, but it is about having Gods Word embeded in our hearts and minds.Check out 2 Timothy 2:15 and Psalms 119:11 I think these will help. In Christ, lionheart |
