Hi, Tim... In the absense of Angel3's response, maybe I can answer. I believe what she is talking about is that we tend to cater to man in how we handle the things of church rather than focus on the Holy Lord God Almighty. A worship service has an audience of One, yet we always talk about what kind music we like, what kind of service we enjoy, what kind of service we want to attend, etc. etc. In Him, Doc |

Greetings Doc! If you got all that from that one phrase, you are much better interpreter than I! ;-) We know that music is an important part of worship, right? Where does Scripture specify what kind of music we should use? It doesn't! So, if I am a worship leader and make a choice concerning music, am I focusing on myself or am I trying to serve God well? Am I catering to man, if I try to preach the Gospel in a way that is understandable? Or, by trying to do things well, am I focusing on God by trying to be obedient to His commands? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Not a lot of time here, I'm afraid brother Tim. I "got all that" from a series of statements that Angel3 made in a variety of responses to you and others in this thread. I was summing up as you have done for me at times when I misunderstood a post. (And I appreciate it.) Look up the "regulative principle" for worship if you are interested in what I believe. You can find it in the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith, but it has a long history of discussion. (There are reasons for the ways of doing things that our forefathers chose, brother. Traditions and ideas *should* be jettisoned when they don't line up with scripture, but they ought to be thoroughly understood before hand, and the process should be slow and methodical. There are too many instances of people approaching God inappropriately in scripture for us to not take this seriously.) As music minister you should always, entirely, and utterly be focused on God and God alone. All you do should bring Him glory, while before the congregation and while in private. Preaching the Word is teaching the entire Word of God so as to bring out the plain meaning of scripture. Preaching is also part of worship. You should do all things well and as unto the Lord. Did you really need answers to these questions? Sorry for not citing chapter verse... You can find plenty of explanation online. There is a much written about this subject -- which isn't about culture, style, denomination, or even tradition. In Him, Doc PS I'm sorry, but I really don't think this Warren debate is going anywhere. I cited specifics, but we seem to be all over the generalities again. God is a sovereign God... I am utterly confident that He will use the "Church Growth Movement" as He sees fit -- one way or another. Lets move on to our deliberation the scriptures. |
