1 | Is the NWT more reliable than the NASB? | Bible general Archive 1 | Tsmith | 78111
I did not say the NASB, I said the NAB. There is a difference. As for the NWT being vastly superior at 2 Peter 3:10, this is based on the translation of euJreqhvsetai. The NASB, for example, renders it "shall be burned up", while the NWT does "will be discovered." The literal meaning of such as been said to be something close to "will be disclosed" or "will be found." To say that the NWT is not recognized by any reputable Hebrew or Greek scholar is an ill-informed and unresearched statement. It is more accurate to state that the arguements raised by even the most reputable scholars (i.e. Mantey, Metzger, etc) are terribly weak and based on a false understanding of Colwell's Rule and simple theological bias (hence, all easily answer). |

My Friend, You're either being dishonest or ignoring what you said for convenience sake! Go back to your post. I responded to your clear statement regarding the NASB! If that's not what you meant, that's one thing, but to be patronizing is yet another. I simply do buy into the NWT, and have ample scholarly company that backs that up. You can claim that we're all "ill-informed", "unresearched", or have a "false understanding". As I see it,the burden of proof is on you to show the Forum that you're correct:-) I'm in agreement with you that personal opinion does not count for much.Would you be so kind as to either provide some personal info on yourself or share with us where you studied Hebrew and/or Greek so that we can evaluate your credentials? 3 | Is the NWT more reliable than the NASB? | Bible general Archive 1 | Tsmith | 78124
I did correct myself, in that I was meaning to reference the NAB, not the NASB. As for the burden of proof. I have nothing to prove to you. If you raise a challange, and prove to have even a basic grasp of the Greek langauge, I have no problem in addressing the points. However, if this is not the case, I see no reason to go through such because you will not understand my reply and you will simply take the word of these other people. |
