I agree with you that taking some "wine" is good and is not a sin. 1Ti 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. As Paul advise timothy to drink wine, instead of water for his stomach sake is a clear evident that taking some wine is not prohibited in the bible, but drunkeness did. i agree also to Tim Moran that not all alcoholic brevarage is safe, as we have here once in the Philippines, that can blind the drinkers even in a small amount of that said alcoholic brevarage. Taking some wine is good, even my doctor advise me to take some red wine, a one or two shot of brandy everyday, it is good to the heart and helps level the colesterol in the body, (research shows that anyway, although it also show that the reaction of the body to the alcohol is the same for everyone) My motive of taking small amount of wine really is to improve my health, it is the same that I am taking medicine if the doctor prescribe, as taking my exercise regularly as my doctor advise. I dont think it is a sin. God bless, Johnny |

If I could offer a few thoughts 1. I have studied Biblical languages and have never found any difference made in “grape juice” and alcoholic wine. Once some one tried to convince me “new or sweet wine” was non-alcoholic but Acts 2:13 and 15 dashed that. To me the reason why no great distinction was made is cultural. Let us remember there was no good refrigeration or pasteurization back then. So if it was not fermented it would be soon. 2. Second the passage in Timothy has a lot to do with culture as well. Any one who has spent any time in a third world country can tell you, don’t drink the water. The reason is there is microorganisms in the water. The cure is to add some alcohol to kill them. Also let me say I find it interesting to ask why was Timothy not drinking wine when it flowed like water in thoes days? Now as to Christians drinking today I won’t say it is a sin however I do see it as very unwise when 1 in 12 people become alcoholics. Also think of our example; how does taking a drink look to people in and out side of the Church, my guess is generaly not well. In most every denomination there are always a number of people who look down on drinking and would call it sin. While I don’t necessarily agree why fight it. Alot of people make the argument it is health to drink wine, in moderation. While this is true recent studies show Non-alcoholic grape juice has the same affects with out the controversy. In Him one. |
