1 | HOW COULD JESUS BE A DESCENDANT OF DAVID | Bible general Archive 1 | Hank | 68084
Hi, Rob: Leaving percentages aside, perhaps it is better to say simply that Jesus was fully God and fully man. But Steve it not splitting hairs, Rob! It is of fundamental and foundational importance to the Christian faith and confession that Jesus was indeed fully God and fully man. Anything else leads us down the dark road to heretical views such as Docetism and Gnosticism. Do I presume to understand this doctrine with my weak and wobbly finite mind? No! Neither can it fathom the depths of understanding that would lead me to be able to know and explain how the transcendent God spoke the universe into existence or taught the bee how to make honey. We walk, don't we brother, by faith and not by sight? My mother, long gone to her reward, was so fond of saying, "We'll understand it better by and by." And, if the Lord wills, perhaps we shall. Happy Thanksgiving. --Hank
2 | HOW COULD JESUS BE A DESCENDANT OF DAVID | Bible general Archive 1 | Rob Aronson | 68139
Hank--and everyone, Please folks, nowhere have I controverted a foundational Christian doctrine. I seem to be hearing that I don't understand, or that I've explained the duality of Christ in a heretical manner. I assure you, this is not so. Let's examine what I've basically said: 1. God formed Christ in the womb of Mary through the Holy Spirit. Biblical, or heretical? 2. Jesus had a human body, just like ours. Biblical, or heretical? 3. God dwelt on earth with men through Jesus. Biblical, or heretical? What it is the problem with saying any of these things? Yes I believe that Christ was God, yes I believe 100 percent-100 percent (if you want to put it that way). I believe that Jesus was fully man and fully God all at the same time, so why all the criticism? I think you guys are arguing for the sake of arguing, or perhaps because I'm not using the same words you're using--though I'm saying the exact same thing. Regardless, I love you all, have a great Thanksgiving, -Rob |
