In the geneology of Matthew, he was listing Jesus' ancestory through his Legal Father, Joseph. Whom everyone thought really was Jesus' Father. Matthew traces Jesus' lineage back to the promised seed of Abraham in Genesis 12:2,3. Who the Jews knew would be the promised Messisah (Christ in English). Also Abraham was an ancestor of David who in turn was an ancestor of Jesus. While Luke traces Jesus' ancestory all the way back to Adam himself. Luke shows us that Jesus is the Promised Seed of the Woman (Gen. 3:15). The woman does not produce "seed" she produces eggs. The man produces the seed which when teamed with the woman's egg. Produces a child. If Jesus had had a human father, he would have had a Sinful nature as ALL of Adam's descedents, including Mary the Mother of Jesus have. Because the Holy Spirit fathered Jesus. Jesus could have a Human body. "Be born of a virgin (a woman) and NOT have any sinful nature. Since woman origianlly came from "within man" that is what "woman" means. And man comes from woman. Jesus had the legal and material evidence to be our Savior. Also Luke traces Jesus' ancestory through Mary's Father, Heli (compare Matt1:16 with Luke 3:23). Joseph's father's name was Jacob. Mary's father Heli and Joseph's father were both distant descendants of David, a descendant of Abraham. So Jesus had both legal right to the Throne of David as well as a direct right (being a direct descendant, through Mary's father) of King David. Hope this helps. God Bless!!! Rev.
