1 | Church is kidnapped to Sodom! | James 2:8 | John Reformed | 58571 | ||
What then should we sin so grace may abound? There is such a thing as church discipline. Just because we forgive someone does not mean that they should not bear the temporal consequences of their actions. When I am slothful in my business I feel convicted and ask theLord to forgive me and to give me the grace to resist my lazy nature. Ithen stand on the promise of God that: 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". But at the end of the month I am going to see a negative effect show up in my sales. As a man sows, so shall he reap. John |

But you don't just continue being lazy do you? No. And have corrected your behavior, you see your improvement on next month's report. I guess, I try to think of how Jesus would react and while Paul had no problem being harsh, Jesus never was. If a man or woman repented, He forgave. He didn't demand the consequences demanded by the Law. This man if fired, would lose his income, his home, and his wife's income. If he is truly repentent, has been rebuked, publically repented, and accepts his church's censure of his behavior, he should be tossed on the street, and forbidden to ever teach the Gospel again? I don't know. It just seems unnecessarily cruel and heavy handed. |

Dear Paul, In answer to your first question, I am sorry to say that slothfulness is a sin that I must resist on a daily basis. But I have placed my trust in Him who is the author and finisher of my faith. He has brought me out of the bondage of many besetting sins over the years and I have no reason to believe that He won't deliver me from this current trial. The fact that I suffer financialy is a blessing because it is a goad that prompts me to me to get busy. I don't understand your 2nd point that speaks about the difference between Jesus and Paul. You wrote: "I try to think of how Jesus would react and while Paul had no problem being harsh, Jesus never was. If a man or woman repented, He forgave. He didn't demand the consequences demanded by the Law." Can you explain to me what you mean? Jesus was very harsh towards the pharisees and even came down hard on His disciples when they needed it. Neither Paul or Jesus demanded the consequence of the Law (eternal damnation) on christians. As far as this man's loss of income goes, it may be the best thing for him. If we could sin without experiencing the negative consequences then what would prompt us to repent? What would be worse to lose one's income or to lose one's experience of the presence of God? In the meantime we have seemed to forget about the fallen sister. If I'm not mistaken, was'nt she a student? How old was she? Was she a christian? Are we to blame her? What I am trying to say is that this situation demands action on the part of the church. I know I sound harsh but this man must accept his punishment and work hard and pray that God will restore him once again to a position of trust. If he is truly repententent he should be forgiven, but it forgiveness will not restore the faith of the people in a fallen leader. It will take time for him to demonstrate through living a godly life the reality of his repentence. John |

No, actually, I don't think you sound harsh at all. I too believe action must be taken. I just don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water. And yes, I know that Jesus could be harsh. "oh you hyprocrits" what??? 9 or 10 times in one chapter? And tossing the money changers out. And dead bones was probably a pretty deadly insult, but my relationship with Jesus is personal. I can't step out of the box of unconditional love that He fills me and surrounds me with in my fellowship with Him through the Holy Spirit. Paul, until this morning, was someone I had read about it, but had never communicated with on any personal level, so that would be why I could say he was more harsh. I hated this forum yesterday, but today is another day. I am really loving the places it is leading me and the way it is driving me to clarify in my own mind so many things. God bless you, and thank you for caring Melanie |
