1 | Church is kidnapped to Sodom! | James 2:8 | Ivory313 | 58093
Two years ago, a brother and a sister in our church had sexual relationship. Both are single. Later the girl was suffered from venereal disease. Two week ago, we discovered a married pastor has sexual relationship with a single sister in the church for one year. The pastor keeps leading praise and worship in many revival meeting. Does the bible have any advise when the church is in such situation? Actually, these thing disappoint me a lot. I have been long for a pure and perfect church for many years. But I think it is impossible now. The church is full of conflict, full of gossip, full of sin.
2 | Church is kidnapped to Sodom! | James 2:8 | kalos | 58097
Ivory313; If we listened only to man, the answer would be: Nope, there's not a thing that can be done about this situation. For according to some, 1) We're never ever supposed to judge anyone; 2) Man has no authority to accept anyone into or reject from the local church; 3) We have no duty or obligation toward God whatsoever. The reasoning is that now that we are saved, we automatically obey all the Law. If that be true, then it is also true that no Christian ever sins. However, points number 1-3 are all wrong. All of these points are in error. In fact the Bible does have something to say about your question. 1 Cor. 5:1-5 (ESV) It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans...[2] And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you. [3] For though absent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing. [4] When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, [5] you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord. 1 Cor. 5:9-11 (ESV) I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— [10] not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. [11] But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. Grace to you, kalos |

Kalos, Read 2 Corinthians 2:5-11 where Paul refers to the verses in 1 Corinthians 5 which you quoted. 2 Cor 2:5-11 (NIV) If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you, to some extent--not to put it too severely. [6] The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient for him. [7] Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. [8] I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. [9] The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient to everything. [10] If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven--if there was anything to forgive--I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, [11] in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. This was a brother who was not a leader ... there is forgiveness. Notice there is no restoration to his position, if he had any. Searcher

Notice it doesn't say there wasn't any either.

Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God's will in thought, purpose, and action), AMPLIFIED 2 Timothy 3:16 Paul, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, clearly tells us: 1 Cor. 1 Cor. 5:9-11 (ESV) I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people — [10] not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. [11] But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. What part of this do you people not understand? |

2 Corinthians 2:6-9 "The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient for him. (7)Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. (8)I urge you, there, to reaffirm your love for him. (9)The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything." I thought 'we people' were all brothers and sisters in Christ? What 'you people' are you representing? |

8 | 508, Are you a DQed overseer? | James 2:8 | Searcher56 | 58624
508 ... "you people" are those who cannot follow what Scripture clearly tells us. For overseers, there is a higher requirement ... including James 3:1. Are you an overseer who is disqualified base on Scripture ... or is it someone close to you?
9 | 508, Are you a DQed overseer? | James 2:8 | jesusfreak508@aol.com | 58638
lol. I see now. So I have to have walked in his shoes to feel compassion and mercy for a fellow Christian. No. I am not a disqualified overseer. I have never even known anyone who stood at risk of such a thing. Where does this term "disqualified overseer" come from anyway? I don't ever recall seeing it in the Scriptures. You point me the James 3:1; now, I would likewise suggest you have a prayer over James 3:2 and James 3:17 and James 4:11,12 and James 5:9 and James 5:15. Mercy and compassion are also Scriptural. So how do you judge me as someone "who cannot follow what Scripture clearly tells us" because those are the Scriptures that tug at my spirit? Why are the only Scriptures you give praise to in this situation the ones that punish and condemn? And do you do this in all situations? I wonder why does that make you a good Christian, and me a "you people" who is less than you? |

Good morning Jesusfreak Boy! This is quite an interesting topic. And I will admit it... I too tend to lean more toward mercy and compassion (not that the others are unkind or unloving). Maybe because I'm a woman!! LOL Micah 6:8 says He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? This is a scripture that I meditate on and the 'love mercy' has really impacted me. A few of my friends do have the opinion that I am too 'soft'. :) And with a topic like this and with all the scriptures that have been posted, I seek to rightly divide the Word of Truth. In a conversation with a brother yesterday, Gal 6:1 was brought up then I wondered when do you 'deliver such an one unto Satan for destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus' and when do 'those that are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekenss; considering thyself, lest thous also be tempted'. Jesus is called the Lamb of God (John 1:29,36) and He's called the Lion of Judah (Rev 5:5) A lamb and a lion! Talk about a contrast! LOL Since He is our perfect example, I want to learn when to be a lamb (deal gently) and when to be a lion (arrhhhh! deal sharply) LOL! Forever learning, forever growing... May you be abundantly blessed today... :) Abba Father bless... Meredith |

That is exactly where I am. And when I don't know, or I'm not sure, I always choose to err on the side of the Lamb. Trusting that God has a plan and that He is going to have His Will and His Way. I am praying earnestly for mercy for this man though. However it works out, I trust in my Savior. God bless Melanie |
