1 | Church is kidnapped to Sodom! | James 2:8 | jesusfreak508@aol.com | 58336
In one of his letters Paul is writing about the eating of meat sacrificed at the altars of idols. He says he doesn't think it's a sin because there is no other god but God. He says if its in the market place, don't ask where the meat came from, just eat it. He says if its offered in someone's house, don't ask where the meat came from, just eat it. But he says if someone tells you it is meat from an idol altar sacrifice, don't eat it. He says don't eat it NOT because to do so is sin (it isn't), but because the guy down the table may think it's a sin (which would make it a sin for him to eat it) but he'll see you eating it and think he can get away with it too. THEN you're sinning by eating it because you have led someone else to sin because they used/viewed you as their example. The Bible also says, if your brother sins you must rebuke him; then when he repents you must forgive him. Your pastor has sinned. He has 'eaten meat' that he KNOWS is a sin AND he has sinned by his example since at least you know about it. But our job isn't to judge him. We just point out what he's done, rebuke him, so he has a chance to repent. Who knows? Maybe he has already done that, repented the act itself, and has been forgiven. But has he repented of the example he set for you? Paul also says that we aren't to give offense, but obviously his actions have offended. You are sitting there in prayer and worship and thinking about what he has done instead of prayer and worship! No church is going to be perfect until Jesus is ready to return, but we have to STRIVE for it. We also have to stay in that church unless God leads us to leave it. Don't be run out of your church or church period by the actions of one. Love him, pray for him, and tell him the turmoil and offense he has created in you. You need to forgive him for you. |

JesusFreak508: Noted in your text is a statement, "Our job isn't to judge him." Please see 1 Cor. 5:10-13. The Body of Believers are to hold one another accountable for our sinful actions and we are to judge one another, rebuke when necessary, and when repentance occurs restore the offender to fellowship in the Body of Christ. Also noted in your text you mention the "offense created in you." We must get the focus off of how we are offended! The focus and bigger picture is the offense to Christ and His Church. Thus the need for Ivory313 to speak to the sinning professor and for the professor to step down. Not because the prof. has offended Ivory313, but because of the offense to God! And you are right on when you say, "pray for him." Pray God is merciful and doesn't strike him where he stands for his sin and for continuing to teach theology to future pastors.

2 Corinthians 6:3 "We put no obstruction in anybody's way, we give no offense in anything, so that no fault may be found and our ministry blamed or discredited." That was my reference. She was offended and it was an obstruction to her praise and worship. It was getting between she and God. That's not important? Christ meets us and forgives us where we are. If the pastor has repented, I'm not worried about him. Though for the offense to his ministry I don't see how he can get out of publically repenting and asking forgiveness from his congregation. And as for the church-- excuse me, but I worship Christ. Not my church or my pastor. I love Christ and He doesn't get offended. He aches for the sinner and wants them/us under his wings like baby chicks. But this woman is distressed and that is my concern. Yes, the instructions in Matthew should be followed. I agree wholeheartedly. I am learning that the Bible has a solution or instructions for just about any situation, but where did you get in the Bible that there was even any chance that God would strike him dead for continuing to preach and teach the Gospel? If he has repented and is forgiven.... and go to 2 Corinthians where Paul himself said he told them this to test their obedience, and since they had passed the test and obeied, they should bring him back in and comfort him so as to confound the devil. How do you get God is going to strike him dead from that???? And how can you teach poor Ivory313 that she should be so unforgiving and hard hearted when she is already so wounded? I would hope that she would go through the steps of Matthew with a saddened but obedient and determined heart. It must be done, but if she does it to be hurtful to him...I'm afraid I just don't understand your point of view. |

Good points JesusFreak. I understand your point of view. I completely agree that any "confrontation" by any one to another must be done with a broken heart, tears, and humbleness. Lord forgive any of us if we do anything so difficult as holding a brother/sister accountable for their actions with a smile on our faces and in our hearts, and rubbing our hands together with glee. If the sinner repents and is forgiven, of course restoration is a must! May all of us be forgiven for our hard-heartedness but may we all have the courage, in humility, to be firm when necessary. (Which of course is often interpreted as hard-heartedness...by some.) Blessings to all. This is an intereseting forum!

Oh Thank you! You are an answer to a prayer! I was just this moment answering another person who was alluding to me as a "you people" who doesn't follow the Scripture because I believe compassion and mercy and forgiveness should be the way this situation is handled. I have been truly HAMMERED today. And with authority of such terms as "disqualified overseers" which I've never even seen in the Scriptures. I was trying to think of a Scripture that restores good cheer because my spirit was truly sad, now here you are! God bless you.
