1 | God allowing things in our lives | 2 Tim 3:16 | ackyjk | 193833
I was listening to a preacher and they were talking about how God will allow problems or situations in our lives over and over until we react properly or understand what God is telling us. I am not getting this exactly right, but that is the thought. The scripture they gave was Psalms 94:12-14 and I do believe this , and was excited that it was brought out in scripture and I wanted to remember it. Well, when i went and read it, it didn't sound like the right one. I am assuming they made a mistake with their notes. But, my question to you is, do you know what scripture tells us that. I would appreciate you telling me. Thank you |

2 | God allowing things in our lives | 2 Tim 3:16 | miller521 | 193834
I've never found a scripture in the Bible which teaches that God sends problems on us over and over again until we learn our lesson. God does not use problems to teach us a lesson, His Word says in 2 Tim 3:16 that the Word will teach us. God does everything though his Word.
3 | God allowing things in our lives | 2 Tim 3:16 | lionheart | 193838
miller521, I will try and refer to this within the context of Hebrews 12:4-12 and James 1:13-15. God does allow things and he will oft times use the issues, challenges and afflictions to mold and build our character or to bring us back when we wander of the given path. In Him, lionheart |

4 | God allowing things in our lives | 2 Tim 3:16 | miller521 | 193839
I understand that God can use trials and challenges in our life to make us stronger. However, I was saying that they do not originate with him. He doesn't just say Ok I need to teach this guy a lesson, since my Word isn't good enough, I'll give him cancer, he'll learn from that. |

6 | God allowing things in our lives | 2 Tim 3:16 | skccab | 193847
May I use a picture that I was taught many years ago? It's a picture of a game reserve: in the very center (near the Throne) we are very protected (not completely as we are still in the world, and the world will always have troubles), as we move away from the center of protection (walking more in our own ways) we become more vulnerable to the worlds woes and the adversary. As we move further away, we eventually will cross that invisible line where there is no protection (for we are now totally out of the will of the Father) and the adversary can legally attempt to harm us. It's a worldly type picture, I know, but one that rang true and has helped me understand when things start going terribly wrong that I'm getting way too far away from God's protective wings that He wants so for us to stay under. I pray this helps you Cheri |

8 | God allowing things in our lives | 2 Tim 3:16 | skccab | 193852
Gye, Thank you. I do agree that the Father can and does get involved with His children in ways that to us seem to be not "good." A failing business, to cause that child to re-think what he/she's doing, maybe the purchase of a much-wanted home seems to be getting thwarted, to cause that child to re-think what he/she's doing, not getting the promotion so eagerly sought, etc. But I don't think the Father would put something as horrible as cancer or aids on His child to teach a lesson. Neither do I think that the person who has cancer or aids or any of those horrible diseases is a person out of God's will or unsaved or being punished. We may not be of the world but we are in it and therefore subject to the bad things that are here. And like you cited in 2 Cor. 12, if we give it to Him it can all be used to His glory!! And in Him we are MORE than conquerors! Cheri |

Cheri, I don't know if I ever mentioned this to you but I co-lead a ministry within my fellowship that ministers to the physically and emotionally challenged. Things constantly change in the lives of people and it can be easy to look at things as a curse, when in reality they can be a blessing from God. As Paul says, when I am weak then I am strong. These past four years have been a real eye opener for me. It's helped me realize that that any strength I have isn't my own but His. It's Grace sweetie and that's why I'm still here today. In Him, lionheart |
