1 | Why do we not keep the 7th day Sabbath | Col 2:16 | TerryM | 1910
The Bible tells us to remember tha Sabbath and keep it holy...we should do all our work in 6 days and rest on the 7th day. It never said which 6 days to work. (If I am wrong, someone please correct with the scriptural reference.) Neither does is explicitly say which day to worship. (Again, if I am wrong...)We are having this same discussion at church. I am of the belief that if you set aside at least one day for the Lord...give it all to Him, then you are ok.

Dear TerryM, If I get the gist of your note correctly, are you saying that any day of the week is fine, as long as we have one day off? Just having the 'day off' was not the purpose of the Sabbath, nor is it worthy of the day of the Lord we presently enjoy. Serving God is the purpose. Now, if you and all your fellowship have Thursday off from work every week forever, you might have a case, but even then you would be limiting your congregation to being 'the Church of Thursday.' This would definitely not be mainline, in fact, it might be considered offline. It makes a lot of sense to adjust your faith life to serve God on Sunday, when a great deal of the rest of the planet takes a day off :-) Blessings in Jesus' name, charis |

3 | Why do we not keep the 7th day Sabbath | Col 2:16 | TerryM | 1999
I never said the day you take off from work should be the day you worship on. Neither does it say that in the Bible. But most people take that scripture and say that you should work 6 days and and worship on the 7th. God never said which days to work, neither did He say which day to worship. He said work 6 days and rest on the 7th. Now if they day you should to worship is the day you take off, then so be it. I take off more than 1 day a week and I worship more than 1 day a week. Everybody can not have sunday off, that is why we have more than one service. I am a an advocate of Sunday worship because (and this is just my opinion) it is in line with tithing of your time. The Bible says give of the first fruits of yor labor. This could include your time. Sunday is the first day of the week (by our current calendar). I am giving the first of my time. That is a "tithe of my time. I also give an "offering" of my time through Bible Study, prayer services, choir rehearsal, women's ministries, church school, etc. |

4 | Why do we not keep the 7th day Sabbath | Col 2:16 | charis | 2007
Dear TerryM, Well said! I agree that our mindset should be to give to the Lord the first and best of everything he has given us, including our time and the days of our lives. The only reason I asked for clarification was for the benefit of our audience. Many Christians in these 'busy modern days' feel that whenever they have time they will serve God, and if they have any money left after taxes, needs and wants, then give it to the Lord as an offering (bribe? :-) I understand that some people cannot get every Sunday off, but if this is chronic and-or permanent, then maybe it's time to get a different job? There is a casual attitude toward God these days that influences many 'good Christians,' but they consider it a 'right.' Sister, trust me that I was making not accusations against you :-) Blessings in Jesus' name, charis |
