1 | no physical death? not sinners? | Eph 4:9 | PDAL | 184211
Hi stj......We need to clear some things up.I never said we don't sin.I said we are not sinners.Maybe this will help.John 3:6 says that which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the spirit is spirit.First and foremost we are a spirit,we have a soul, and live in a body. This single aspect that man is a spirit is so interwoven throughtout Paul's writings that failure to recongnize it has kept many from grasping the rest of Paul's revelation......For Paul the spirit of man is the real man.He uses the term"heart"meaning the core or principle part in referring to it(Rom.2:28,29;Eph.3:16,17).He uses the term"inward man"in referring to it as in 2Cor.4:16...though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.We know from Rom.2:28,29 that the term"inward man"refers to the heart or spirit,so the term"inward man" here refers to the spirit.Paul uses the term"I" or"we" in referring to his own spirit in 2Cor.4:16-18;1Cor.14;14;He uses the pronoun "you" when he speaks of other's spirits as in Eph.2:1"....you hath he quickened, who were dead..."We know this refers to their spirit because these Ephesians weren't dead physically, but spirituall before they were saved. In Eph.4:24 he calls the reborn spirit the new man.Our spitits have been recreated, been made one with Christ Himself through the impartation of His Life into us.We are new creations on the inside, the rightousness of God.All that is in Christ is now in our spirits where the union between us and Chris has been formed. What has to be dealt with now is our minds. Our minds need to be renewed.Rom.12:2.be transformed by the renewing of yoour mind. Our mind has not directly been changed in the new birth like your spirit has.It must undergo a process of renewal, there must be a change in the way our minds think. This happens as it is subjected to what is true of us in our spirit......2Cor.5:16 says to know no one after the flesh. There is a big difference between your self and your flesh. We are not to identify with our actions. We identify with who we are in spirit, because we are spirit......Be Blessed....PDAL.
2 | no physical death? not sinners? | Eph 4:9 | stjohn | 184230
Hi PDAL: First of all, I pray you accept my apology for my crassness, and condescending response. Thank you, for your patient and thoughtful one. I think, I do now, know what you mean, and correct me if I am wrong, please. It appears that your definition of sinner is the same as unsaved, if that is so, I concur, (I'm not sure that webster would see it that way) but the way you put it I agree, wholeheartedly i.e. spiritually, and, mindfully too, if I may. And, I agree when you say, Paul, in the verses you refer to is talking about the spirt, and, that we, having accepted Christ as our savior, are born again in that spirt i.e. we have a NEW SPIRT! amen. And, that we are being transformed, i.e. an ongoing process of renewing our minds, agreed. However; and once again, my apologies for not saying this before, as this really is my point, When the world, the unsaved, unbelieving, sinners, hear a Christian say something like I AM NOT A SINNER! (and they will be using webster's definition, by the way.) they see a pompous pious hypocrite. As you said yourself, we're not saying that we don't sin. I think what we are saying is, we don't want to associate ourselves as sinners, I cant agree more. So; maybe we don't see what they see, but that is what they see. And believe me, I know, I don't know about you, but I spent the better part of 50 years as an unsaved, unbelieving, sinner. And brother if we are to sow seeds of God's salvation in the hearts of sinners, so the Spirt of God can grace them with faith once having heard the massage. Well; we need to be careful thats all; If they see us as lyers: Why should they believe us? May God's peace bless you always. stj |
