Hello drbloor, You wrote: "If the wages of sin is death, and angels cannot die, then neither can they sin, or they would die, which they cannot do. At least, not according to Jesus." I have followed this thread with interest and have found you to be someone who appears to have a great deal of intelligence as well as bible knowledge. Will you please help me make sense of your above statement? A very obvious thought is, who is recorded as having committed the very first sin? Was it not Satan? Is Satan not an angel? I don't follow your argument here. To say that angels can't sin is so far out there that it makes it difficult to take anything else you say as credible. John 8:44 44 "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies . You said, "at least not according to Jesus". Jesus said Satan is a murderer and a liar. I'm believing at this point that you are fixed on the idea of physical death and forgetting the truth regarding the "second death". 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. Also see Revelation 2:11 and 21:8. God bless, Jeff |

Dear Jeff, With respect, I would like to refrain from discussing this point with you. My Bible only contains one angel that is referred to as a "Satan" and that is in Numbers 22:22, and he was an obedient angel of the Lord. Above and beyond that the issue is one that I have covered here before, and would rather not raise again for the good (or ill) of all. I think the conclusion we reached was that the subject may have generated more heat than light. I hope you understand. Yrs, Dr. B. |

Scripture ... Num 22:22,32; 1Sa 29:4; 2Sa 19:22; 1Ki 5:4, 11:14,23,25; 1Ch 21:1; Job 1:6-2:7; Psa 38:20, 71:13, 109:4,6,20,29; Zec 3:1-2 ... Are you saying the angel was Satan? The word satan in the Hebrew doesn't always refer to a being like the one in Job. Satan is also translated adversary, which makes sense in Numbers 22. The angel of the Lord is not Satan, but an adversary ... and he told Balaam he was an adversary "because your way was contrary to me" (v 32). I cited all the OT passages on the Hebrew word "satan" ... which refer to the being and which do not ... one verse is both. |

Dear Searcher, I'm saying that the angel of the Lord in Numbers 22:22 was Satan, just as David was Satan in 1 Sa 29:4, and God was Satan in the parallel accounts of 1 Chr 21:1 and 2 Sa 24:1, and Peter was Satan in the New Testament. The word "Satan" has taken on a totally unBiblical meaning when you take it to mean a supernatural fallen angel monster. In the Bible the word is only used to refer to an adversary. But anyway, enough of that, we've been through all that before. I'm taking a sabbatical from the forum for a while - it's eating up far too much of my time...! Okay, Dr. B. |
