1 | Can you define Charismatic | Eph 4:14 | EdB | 104059
Khuck A Pentecostal is one that believes the manifestation of the Holy Spirit as seen in Acts and other New Testament books are in use today. A Charismatic is one that believes they need to let their emotions flow when they worship God. Charismatic are best described as having robust lively worship with lots of singing, shouting, and even some dancing or swaying with the music. Early Pentecostals came out of the holiness movement and there was little demonstrations of emotion. While they did dance before the Lord as David did, if you moved in an old Pentecostal church you had better be in the spirit. However over time many Pentecostal churches began to become more charismatic in their worship. However the trend is now in nearly very denominations. I know of one Baptist church that their worship celebration make many “charismatic church” look stoic. Obviously when you let emotions flow there is ample opportunity for flesh to abound. Then comes the problems, are we enthusiastically celebrating and worshipping God or are we putting on a show to demonstrating how ‘spiritual’ we are? Then there also the deviations such as barking, shaking, and the list goes on. I believe when we get to heaven everyone will be a little charismatic in their worship and you know what fleshly outburst won’t be a problem. EdB |

2 | Can you define Charismatic | Eph 4:14 | khuck | 104064
Hi EdB when I was first saved I believe the church that I belonged to was of the Holiness movement. I found that I could not live Holy without God's Grace. Yet we were told that indeed a man could live a sin-free life. I wore no jewelry except a lone watch, no make up, my skirts dragged the ground, my shirts covered all skin except my hands. No matter what I did I failed miserably to be Holy. It was all outward appearance. As I grew I began to pray about it. As I read and understood and came to realize that it was a noble and ideal dream, that I could not accomplish, but God is able to accomplish it. Due to your definitions I would say that my beliefs are still more in line with the Pentecostal, having seen the Gifts of the Spirit at work in the Church. Thank you so much for the further insight. -kathy |

3 | Can you define Charismatic | Eph 4:14 | EdB | 104070
khuck You may have attended a church that called itself holiness but in fact it was filled with man made laws. In fact I feel certain I can safely say 95 percent of the rules effected women. If the men had a rule it was not wear a tie (hate those things) how convenient! True holiness churches were far more than the rules of dress. They contained men and women hungry for God, people that would fast and pray until God moved. They had tarrying services where they stayed in prayer for hours on end. They had through obedience and submission of the flesh developed a relationship with God that few today have any concept of. Out of that prayer, out of that walk, out of their relationship with God came many of the things we hear about today and call Pentecostalism. They sought God and the Spirit manifested before them. Today most seek the manifestations thinking they will find God in them. EdB |
