1 | Paul is a married man(widow/divorce)? | 1 Cor 7:1 | Jagfire | 172784
The Bible never says whether Paul was married or not. Some think that he was at one time based on what he said in 1 Corinthians 9:5, "Don't we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord's brothers and Cephas?" If Paul was married at one time, his wife likely passed away considering he never mentions her in any of his writings. Paul declared that he had the gift of celibacy in 1 Corinthians 7:1-7. Some believe that the Apostle Paul was married because history tells us that a member of the Sanhedrin was required to be married. However, Paul never stated that he was a member of the Sanhedrin. He definitely seemed to be on the path, "I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers" (Galatians 1:14). However, Paul might not have advanced that far before He converted to Christ. So, was the Apostle Paul married? It is possible that he was at one time, but again, the Bible does not specifically say. |

Genesis 2:18 says ... Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him." God's day to you, corin, You slightly twisted Scripture, which I quoted above ... and take 1 Corinthians 7:1 out of context. Verses 2-3 say ... But because of immoralities, each man is to have his own wife, and each woman is to have her own husband. The husband must fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The touching (v 1) was outside of marriage, based on immoralities in vesre 2 ... and continuing to verse 9 (burning with passion). Searcher |

Because of the present crisis, I think that it is good for you to remain as you are. 1 Corinthians 7:26 ____________________ NIV 1 Corinthians 7 1 Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to marry. 2 But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband 26 Because of the present crisis, I think that it is good for you to remain as you are. 27 Are you married? Do not seek a divorce. Are you unmarried? Do not look for a wife. 28 But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this. 29 What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none; 32 I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs--how he can please the Lord. 33 But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world--how he can please his wife-- 34 and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord's affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world--how she can please her husband. 35 I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord. Corin: To understand what a verse means the first thing to do is read it in context. That is, "Never read a Bible verse. That's right, never read a Bible VERSE. Instead, always read a paragraph - at least." (www.str.org/free/ studies/neverrea.htm) Grace to you, Kalos |

why God said it is NOT GOOD when Adam can have full attention to HIM without eve? isn't it good Adam can have the undivided devotion to the Lord?when eve was created Adam should choose God instead of eve to show his dedication to God as his preference in the choice given by God ?
7 | GOD and Paul | 1 Cor 7:1 | Elderhecky | 172865
You have to look at the context of the entire verse. It was not good in God's heart for Adam to be alone, with no companion. Yes, he had God, but in order for us to be complete, to be all that God intended, we must have a helper to come along side of us, to complete us. Eve was a gift to Adam from God. If Adam refused God's gift that was motivated thru love, then that would have been a greater insult than what later transpired. We need to have the lenses of Eternity when we look at situations like this.

Hi, Corin... Yes, always study a verse within the context of the passage. Always study the passage within the context of the chapter. Always study the chapter within the context of the book. Many errors arise by taking Scripture out of context. One of the historic Baptist documents puts it this way, "It is an infallible rule that Scripture is to be interpreted by Scripture, that is to say, one part by another. Hence any dispute as to the true, full and evident meaning of a particular passage must be determined in the light of clearer, comparable passages." (Acts 15:15-16; 2 Peter 1:20-21) In Him, Doc |

READ THE CONTEXT. Apparently you fail to understand ... If you are NOT married it is NOT GOOD to touch a woman. READ the context of 1 Corinthians 7:1 which is at least to verse 6 ... touching after marriage is desired. READ THE CONTEXT. This fits with the verses in Genesis. Do you understand now?
14 | GOD and Paul | 1 Cor 7:1 | corin | 172923
1 Corinthians 7:1 to at least verse 6 is PURELY OPINION of Paul so it will fits the verses in Genesis ? 1. 1 Corinthians 7:1 Now concerning the things about which you wrote, it is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2. 1 Corinthians 7:12 where Paul says, "But to the rest speak I(Paul) NOT the Lord." 3. God did DECLARE at creation that "it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help fit for him" (Gen. 2:18). Marriage was instituted by God and is the norm for society; it is a great blessing to mankind ? SPIRITUAL is not determined by one's marital status ? |

15 | GOD and Paul | 1 Cor 7:1 | DocTrinsograce | 172926
Dear Corin, The Holy Spirit inspired the words of Paul. The words of Paul are every bit as authorative as the words of Jesus Christ or the words of God Himself. "ALL Scripture is breathed out by God" (2 Timothy 3:16a ESV, my emphasis) It is a great mistake to attribute a higher value to one passage of Scripture over another. "The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times." (Psalms 12:6) In Him, Docn |
