1 | "Spiritual" Isreal? | Rom 9:10 | sheckey | 113202
Quote, "Thus, proving Paul’s point that simply being a physical descendant of Abraham does not make you a part of the spiritual Israel." Textually, how do you draw a distinction here between what you are calling "spiritual" Isreal and "True" Isreal? |

2 | "Spiritual" Isreal? | Rom 9:10 | Morant61 | 113210
Greetings Sheckey! It always amazes me when an old post pops up again. I sometimes forget what I have posted! :-) Thanks for taking the time to read it. How do I draw the distinction between 'spiritual' Israel and 'natural' Israel? Let's look at the flow of Paul's arguement in Romans 9. 1) In Rom. 9:6, Paul says that not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. Here is the first indication that Paul is thinking of something beyond the physical nation of Israel. 2) In the next 13 verses, Paul shows that someone (Easu) who was a physical son of Israel could be excluded from God's covenant of promise. 3) Then Paul begins to discuss God's sovereign right to show mercy to whom He wishes. 4) In this case, it is those who are not 'His people' who will be called 'His people' - Rom. 9:25. 5) Finally, in chapter 11 and verse 25, Paul details that Gentiles will be included into 'Israel' through faith. This is what I mean by the distinction between physical and spiritual Israel. Physical Israel is all those who are born of Jacob, but they may not be God's people. While, spiritual Israel is made up of all those who have faith. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

4 | Then why "Isreal" | Rom 9:10 | Morant61 | 113231
Greetings Sheckey! Because there is a nation called Israel! :-) But, the nation of Israel is not the same as the spiritual body called Israel. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

5 | Still wondering about Isreal | Rom 9:10 | sheckey | 113234
Allow me then to be more precise in my question. Where, in the NT, or better yet, in Paul's teaching on Isreal, does he (Paul) make a distinction between "Physical" Isreal and "Spiritual" Isreal?

Sheckey, are you asking about the land of Israel versus the spiritual Israel? If so, I know no NT bible verses dealing with that. In Romans 2:27,28 Paul speaks about the outward and inward Jew: "And he who is physically uncircumcised, if he keeps the Law, will he not judge you who though having the letter of the Law and circumcision are a transgressor of the Law? For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh." Apart from these choices, I don't understand your question. Colin |
