Steve, what can I say? Read the words to Mary Magdalene's song, and that was only ONE song in the whole play. The whole play portrayed many characters' feelings towards Jesus, not just Judas'. The play, is, in short, the gospel. It is the gospel in a different form, than perhaps you are used to, but remember, Paul said that he became all things to all people, in hopes that through him Christ may save some. I can testify that the Holy Spirit reached me through this play. Love and Blessings, LimeJuice | ||||||

Sure Paul Said; "I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some." But that doesn't include preaching a "different form of the Gospel". There is only one Gospel and it is written in the Bible. Any deviation from the Bible and it does not come from the Holy Spirit. Paul also said in Romans 16:17 "Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them" Galatians 1:6 "I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; 7 which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! 9 As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed! 10 For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ" Love in Christ bgg |

I find this whole conversation unfruitful. I said simply, I listened to the album with my youth group when I was young, the Holy Spirit touched me through it, I accepted no "different gospel," I accepted the One and Only Jesus Christ, and I am tired of defending myself and God in me .... as I said numerous times before, if anyone has a problem with Christ in me or the Holy Spirit working in my life, please take it up with the Lord, as He alone is my righteousness. LimeJuice, I am not questioning your Salvation, Just this play. This is all I said: "But that doesn't include preaching a "different form of the Gospel". There is only one Gospel and it is written in the Bible. Any deviation from the Bible and it does not come from the Holy Spirit." The rest of the previous post is directly out of the Bible: Can you truly say that this play does not deviate from the Bible? The play has Jesus saying: "There's too many of you -- don't push me, There's too little of me -- don't crowd me, Heal yourselves". This is not the Jesus in the Bible. Just some quotes by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber “"It happens that we DON'T SEE CHRIST AS GOD but simply the right man at the right time at the right place." So said Tim Rice as quoted in Time, November 9, 1970, page 47” Tim Rice said, "I regard Christ as a man, placing him on a human level." Quoted from Seventeen magazine, March 1971. Webber is quoted in Rolling Stone, December 2, 1970 as saying, "I personally don't think that Jesus is God." One can draw his or her own conclusion but for someone to not think that Jesus is God, how can Jesus possibly be portrayed biblically? bgg |

The writers seem to have known enough about Jesus to know that He was not any ordinary man. . When we are infants, we gaze up into our Father's eyes lovingly, we don't know a whole lot about Him, our relationship with Him is new, as far as our minds are concerned. . Now, as we grow up, we learn more about our Father. Certainly we learn that He is all powerful, but do you honestly think that Jesus, as 100 percent man and 100 percent God, was not physically and emotionally exhausted (the man part) as the crowds sought Him out for healing and all of their needs? The play makes one ponder this point. . Can we really ignore how someone else sees Christ, and the different revelations that they may have? We know that if everyone were just like us, the whole body of Christ would be one big toe, or one big elbow. But as it is, an elbow has a different function and a unique relationship to the Head, and so on and so forth for each part of the body. Were the play writers just infants in the Lord at the time of their authoring the play? Who are we to say, no they weren't? So you are older in Christ, does that mean, that if you wrote a play about Jesus, that your portrayal of Him would be any more accurate? Could there be things about God that you might not know, and therefore misrepresent Him in some ways? Oh yes. So, the play writers had faults. They weren't accurate in everything they concluded. God looks at the heart. Would they follow Jesus today if He showed up at their door? Maybe they would follow Him more closely than you realize. Maybe they already are. Could God take the love and little understanding they had about Him, and reach people? He does it every day. He does it through you. You are faulty, but if you ever present the gospel to someone, and that person accepts Christ, your faulty views of God don't stop the Holy Spirit from touching the other person. You have some views of God that are right on and correct, and some views that are faulty, we all do, we are human. You cannot say that you know everything there is to know. So all I'm asking is for you to view what is in the glass, and not what is left out. You may be surprised that the little that is in the glass, because it is God, and Holy, is enough to quench a thirst for a lifetime. Lime |

'No one who examines [Jesus Christ Superstar] in the light of Scripture can be happy with the opera. It is impossible to see the Superstar as anything but one of the "false Christs" of whom the Lord Jesus Christ warned us (Matthew 24:24). 'The fact is that Jesus Christ Superstar is a conscious blasphemy against Christ. According to the plain statements of its authors, it is a deliberate repudiation of the Christ of Scripture. Tim Rice, who wrote the words of the opera, stated, "Although the gospels seem largely accurate in their telling of the events of the crucifixion, one can see great flaws in their portrayals of both Christ and Judas." (Seventeen (magazine), March 1970, p.170) Rice produced a text that flagrantly denies the most important things the Gospels teach about Christ. He presents a false Christ. 'Before you watch Jesus Christ Superstar there are some things you should weigh very carefully. 'Before you watch Jesus Christ Superstar you should know that it gives Satan's description of Christ. 'Tim Rice said, "The idea of the whole opera is to have Christ seen through the eyes of Judas, and Christ as a man, not as a God. And the fact that Christ himself is just as mixed up and unaware of exactly what he is, as Judas is." (Interview sent to radio stations in recorded and printed forms with the original album of Jesus Christ Superstar, band 2 of the recorded interview, p.5 of the printed interview.) 'This is what the opera aims to teach -- a mixed-up Christ as described through the eyes of Judas. Such a description of Christ is simply Satan's description of Him. Jesus said of Judas, "Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?" (John 6:70). 'If you do not wish to fill your mind with Satan's evil misrepresentation of the Son of God, you should avoid Jesus Christ Superstar. 'Before you watch Jesus Christ Superstar you should know that it presents Christ as a mere man, and an immoral one at that. 'Tim Rice plainly stated that he did not believe that Jesus Christ was God (Interview, band 3, pp.9-10). His opera constantly drives home this denial of the Son of God. He has Mary Magdalene say, "He's a man, he's just a man." He even puts his blasphemy into the mouth of Christ. Replying to the cries for healing from the crowd, Superstar's Christ says, 'There's too many of you -- don't push me There's too little of me -- don't crowd me Heal yourselves. 'This is a plain denial of the single most important truth of the gospel, the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. "Without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh" (I Timothy 3:16). 'Jesus Christ Superstar not only strips Christ of His deity but even of His morality. The opera presents Mary Magdalene as a prostitute who says of Christ, 'He's a man, he's just a man And I've had so many men before. In many ways He's just one more 'According to the opera Mary's relationship with Christ causes Judas to object: 'It seems a strange thing to me, mystifying, That a man like you can waste time on women of her kind; Yes I can understand that she amuses But to let her stroke you, kiss your hair, is hardly in your line. 'Rice then has Judas chide Christ for being inconsistent: 'It's not that I object to her profession But she doesn't fit well with what you teach and say It doesn't help us if you're inconsistent They only need a small excuse to put us all away. 'What a travesty of the character against whom neither friend nor foe could find the slightest fault. The Bible says He "knew no sin" (II Corinthians 5:21); He "did no sin" (I Peter 2:22); "In him is no sin" (I John 3:5). 'If you wish to keep yourself clean from such open blasphemy, you should steer clear of Jesus Christ Superstar. 'Before you watch Jesus Christ Superstar you should know that it accuses God of terrible sin. 'If you wish to be free from the guilt of such a vicious attack on God and His Son, you should not watch Jesus Christ Superstar.' All I can say is, you are blind, and you pick sentences out of the opera like some people pick sentences out of the bible, VERY out of context. You don't see and I'm not interested in persuading you to see, only God can make people see love. The End. Lime. |
