1 | Are we presenting the gospel scripturaly | John 1:12 | Morant61 | 172506
Greetings Mark! I've been agreeing with you so much that I thought it was time to disagree a bit. ;-) Eph. 2:8 actually doesn't say that faith is a gift, but that 'it' is a gift. 'Faith' and 'grace' are both feminine nouns, while the pronoun 'it' is neuter. Therefore, neither 'faith' or 'grace' can be the antecedent for 'it'. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

2 | What is "it"? Eph 2:8 | John 1:12 | Wild Olive Shoot | 172514
Way to keep me in suspense Tim. :) Does the "it" then refer to "His Kindness" from v7 or salvation spoken of in v8 or neither? Ephesians 4:7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 2 Thessalonians 3:2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. Faith is a gift though is it not? 1 Corinthians 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; Or does the faith mentioned here refer something other than saving faith? Faith is one of the fruits of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, WOS |

3 | What is "it"? Eph 2:8 | John 1:12 | Morant61 | 172521
Greetings WOS! Allow me touch upon your last question first! :-) I would say that 1 Cor. 12 and Gal. 5 would refer to something other than saving faith. Both of these passages address something given to believers. As for your first question, 'kindess' is also feminine - so 'it' cannot refer to it. The noun salvation is not used in v.8, so 'it' can't refer to it either. But, most feel that 'it' does refer to the whole process of salvation. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
