I don't think I have shown any intolerance and if I did it was unintentional and I apologize. NOR do I disagree with the authority, necessity, sufficiency, perspicuity, or inerrancy of the word! I also believe Man was created to live by the every word of the Lord, however John tells us John 21:25 (NASB) 25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they *were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself *would not contain the books that *would be written. My concern is many of those things passed by word of mouth and later documented in the writings of the Early Church Fathers have been ignored, rejected, discounted, and in some cases mocked. What I disagree with is that the concept of the Sola Scriptura is a precept of God. As I stated I believe Scripture provides us the boundaries for our life but to be in God’s perfect will we must allow the Holy Spirit to leads us within those boundaries. His leading will never cross those boundaries nor will it move the survey lines. What I hold first and foremost is that the Word of God is living My intention for posting in response to your quote was not to debate your quote but rather to tell “the rest of the story”, so to speak. So often man states things as absolute positives when in fact the are precepts, concepts, ideas birthed in the mind of men. And as such can and may even be contrary to the very nature of God. |

Dear Ed, I'm okay with your disagreement with Sola Scriptura (the authority, necessity, sufficiency, perspicuity, and inerrancy of the Word) why aren't you just happy to leave me with my high regard for Scripture? (That would be tolerance... and a real life demonstration of the fruit of the Spirit!) If you would like to start arguing against these doctrines, go ahead and start a thread on the topic, citing pertinent Scripture. (Sorry, I guess arguing against sola Scriptura from the Bible would be a bit non sequitur. But that would following the Terms of Use.) "The prophet who has a dream may relate his dream, but let him who has My word speak My word in truth. What does straw have in common with grain?" declares the LORD." Jeremiah 23:28 "I will worship toward Your holy temple and praise Your name for Your loving-kindness and for Your truth and faithfulness; for You have exalted above all else Your name and Your word and You have magnified Your word above all Your name!" I never wanted or intended to effect anyone's high regard for scripture! Nor have I ever said anything to suggest such! So I'm not sure why you would mention it. Nor do I want to argue against any Biblical doctrines. I never even remotely suggested that so I don't know why you would mention that. What I object to is man's arbitrary objection normally called Sola Scriptura to anything not specifically written in scripture in a regulative principal (as Beja suggested we should call it to eliminate such confusion) function. So if you are going to accuse me of something please accuse me of something I did. |
