1 | If we ask for healing does God answer no | 1 Peter | mitchbornagain | 146555 | ||
I use the phrase that you are in bondage, because you are allowing the lie that God has no intention of healing his children. Jesus said the Word will set you free, and if you can get ahold of the Word that heals, (he sent his Word and healed them) then you will be free in that area of your life. I understand you were using death as an example, however we can't base our belief on the Bible based on a person's lifestyle, otherwise everyone who said Christian's were nuts because a few so called Christians killed abortion doctors, would be valid in their assessment. Scripture might not use the exact words 'claim our healing' however Jesus was very specific when he told us that If we say unto this mountain be thou removed and be thou cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in our heart, those things we say shall come to pass. Thats him telling us to speak to it, in other words, to claim it. Mitch |

Hi Mitch, There are at least 4 main challenges with your argument that I can see: 1. Scripture NOWHERE tells us that it is always God's will to heal. To appeal to the name-it-and-claim-it doctrine is to fall prey to spurious theology. This is a very recent- 20th and 21st Century- interpretation. None of the 19th Century Commentators like Spurgeon, nor the Church Fathers held this belief. It is a major stretch to overlook almost 2000 years of Church history? Don't you think? 2. You are presupposing on God and His Sovereignty. Psalm 115:3 says: "But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased" God is not obligated to us, nor is He beholden to our layings claims to be healed. He is the sovereign, supreme Creator of the universe! He can choose to heal or not. He's still God!(Ps. 135:5-6) 3. What of those such as Joni Erikson Tada, and hosts of others who have incredible testimonies and ministries- despite physical afflictions? Surely you're not going to tell me they lack faith or "haven't been taught right"? It's not about basing our belief on a persons' lifestyle. 4. What of the supreme treatise on Faith in Hebrews 11:1-34? ALL of those examples mentioned were commended for their FAITH! yet, even by faith: "...others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect." [vs. 36-40] We could also use Pauls' affliction- a thorn in the flesh- in 2 Cor. 12 as a prime example. Timothy had an infirmity, and Trophimus was left sick in Miletum- 2 Tim. 4:20. Why weren't they healed according to your formula? Is it possible that God worked through them despite physical afflictions? Mitch, I don't wish to argue this matter or belabor the point any further. You are welcome to believe what you want. However, as for me and my household, I choose to walk by faith. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Ok, you bring up a valid point when you mention that for years, people didn't believe healing was for all. I can't answer that Sir, I can't answer why they ignored the Lord, I can't tell you either why they have denied the baptism of the Holy Ghost, with speaking in other tongues for years either, or why so many churches today allow abortion, or homosexuality as an acceptable form of life. But I can tell you, they are wrong. Just because someone else never believed in God, doesn't mean God decided to change his message. As for your quotation of Psalm 115, let me say that yes, God has done as he hath pleased. And let me tell you once again, he wanted to heal all of us, so he has already done that. He's not changing, he has already healed us all on calvary Sir, to say that he might decide one day to not heal someone, yet heal another, would be the EXACT same as saying he didn't decide everyon could be saved on calvary, but that he decides thats now on a whim. And let me just mention one thing about Paul's thorn, I ahve already said here, that we have no indication that Paul had to live his entire life with this 'thorn' but lets assume for one brief moment he did , if thats what you consider illness in your life to be, is a thorn like Paul did, then please brother tell me, What amazingly glorious thing have you been doing in your life, that has you to the point where you are exalted above measure? Where people want to follow you more than they want to follow Christ? Where you have almost surpassed the greatness of the Lord Jesus? What have you done to be so highly exalted? I'm not saying you haven't done wonderful things in your life, I"m saying to compare a sickness you might have to the issue with Paul, we need to look at why Paul's was sent to him. Mitch |
