Doc, I'm not Mitch but I am curious to know the instances of God sending physical maladies you speak of. I might know what you are referring to but I'm not sure. Theresa |

Hi, Theresa... There are lots of instances where God sent disease or death (and no doubt He will continue to do so until the end): on Pharaoh (Gen 12:17), on all Egypt (Exo 9:14), on all the Egyptian firstborn (Exo 12:29), on Israel (as a promise in Deu 28:59), on the Israelites (Num 11:33), the Philistines (1 Sam 5:9), on the men of Bethshemesh (1 Sam 6:19), on Nabal (1 Sam 25:38), on Bathsheba's baby (2 Sam 12:15), on Uzzah (2 Sam 6:7), on Naaman (2 Kings 5), on Elisha's servant (2 Kings 5:27), on Assyrians (2 Kings 19:35), on Jeroboam (2 Chron 13:20), on Jehoahaz (2 Chron 21:18), on Uzziah (2 Sam 6), on Jerusalem (Jer 19:8), on Ananias and Sapphira (Act 5), on Paul (Act 9 and 2 Cor 12:7), on Herod (Acts 12:23), on Elymas (Acts 13:11), etc. etc. The problem is that we tend to be man focused instead of God focused. God is working out His eternal purpose to His own glory. True, He is glorified by blessing men. However, sometimes people glorify God in suffering (Rom 8:17, Phi 1:29, 3:10, Heb 13:3, James 5:10, 1 Peter 2:21, 3:14, 4:13-19, etc.). Of course, we don't like to think about that. We'd rather imagine that God saved us to make our lives comfortable and easy. Sorry... have to get back to a paper due tomorrow. In Him, Doc |

Look at these you are posting Sir, was Pharaoh a righteous man? Woudl the firstborn of Egypt not have been saved had Pharaoh listed to God and released the Israelites when they were first warned? Or could it be that sickness flowed, because the will and desires of God were ignored, meaning, becuase of their sin, the sickness and the death came. You can read through the Old Testament, and find that God instituted sacrifices which were meant to heal the sick, such as the ones for leprosy, how about Moses raising up the serpent in the desert, and those who looked upon it, were healed. Are you telling me those sacrifices were more powerful than the sacrifice of Jesus Christ? Because if you deny the power of the cross, then you are in fact saying that since Christ only took away sin, then the blood of a goat was more powerful, because it could cure the lepors. Just a thought. Mitch |

Hi, Mitch... Please look again at the references -- some of those mentioned were innocent (if *any* men can be called such). There is a common grace in which all men -- good or evil -- benefit from the hand of God (Matthew 5:45). There is also a sense in which all men -- good or evil -- suffer as a consequence of the fall (Romans 8:22-23). If Christ's atoning work saved the body, why do some believers fall sick? Why does Paul talk about the fading "outer man" (2 Corinthians 4:16)? I would never minimize the work of Christ. This act of God is mighty, doing a far, far greater work than healing physical bodies that will simply die again. Salvation is much more miraculous and incredible than anything as piddly as that! Just imagine! Raising dead souls to eternal life! In Him, Doc |

I can not answer why some believers fall sick Sir, I can't answer why some people chose to go to the grave without knowing the love of God in their lives either. Is it God's fault if someone dies and goes to hell? Or as I've already written, did they die with lack of knowledge of the truth? They heard the Word, but they didn't recieve it, and it killed them. Also I suggest looking up the often quoted passage Whosover shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. And then look up the Word saved in a good dictionary such as Vine's and you will see you can just as easily say Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be healed. Read through the Scriptures I've listed, they can lead you to the truth. Mitch |
