1 | Must a woman have long hair | 1 Corinthians | EdB | 70785
inmyheart I really don't have a problem with your answer. But I do have a question. How do we determine what is a cultural difference and what is something God wants. Case in point we say Paul talking about long hair is a matter of cultural difference that really doesn't pertain to us today. Yet we will take a teaching on say Christians character in Ephesians 5 and say this is how we are to live. If we can call the other a cultural difference why can't we call this a cultural difference and vice versa. I don't have a problem with hair I just wonder how we decide what is just color commentary talking about the culture of the day and what is direction for our lives? EdB |

2 | Color commentary vs direction for living | 1 Corinthians | beensetfree | 70891
EdB: You pose an interesting question. How does one determine what is "color commentary" on how to live and what is "direction" for living? Do we read, study, and examine scripture to glean the overarching prinicple God wants us to live by? Continuing to use as an example the issue of long hair for women per 1 Corinthians, is the overarching principle God wants us to live by that women live and present themselves in such a manner as to glorify God in all manner of dress and care of self? I would humbly suggest, yes. I also cannot help but think this section in 1 Corinthians speaks to the current issue of women dressing like men and wearing their hair as many men do. Further, look at the entire context of this passage. What is the main focus? Prayer. And the second issue? The headship of man. I pray I don't raise the hackles of a few readers by tossing out some of these thoughts. I look forward to reading some of the forum contributers thoughts on this topic. Thank you for letting me respond! Beensetfree |

5 | Color commentary vs direction for living | 1 Corinthians | EdB | 70932
Confucious Hi I'm not sure about your ID but what you said is so true. Many 'Christians' today live as they want, and question God about the results. EdB |

6 | Color commentary vs direction for living | 1 Corinthians | Confucious | 70935
Being that I am a "new" Christian I learned alot. My name is because there are some things in my life that I am having a hard time dealing with. Knowing God's word is not helping me overcome them. Maybe because I'm willing to see where things could go. A "Christian" would know you can not comprise with what the Bible says. But I am not here to judge. You can bend it to fit your situation, but HIS word will not change.
7 | Color commentary vs direction for living | 1 Corinthians | EdB | 70952
Confucious You hit the nail on the head. Many think because they can bend the Word they are able to change the word. The Word stands in judgement of their attempt. EdB |
