1 | Joann ... Why not use your gift ? | Romans | Searcher56 | 91825
Joann .. you said "I do not speak in other tongues in Church or around other people who do not understand." Why not use your gift (1 Cor 12) so that an unbeliever who does not understand English can hear it is his language ... of course, there is a need for an interpeter (1 Cor 14).

I am a new Christain who is filled with the Holy spirit. I do not totally understand the gift of the Holy Spirit, so I have had to go through a fear of it. I believe of course this fear is of the enemy and I am working through the doubts and fears of what man will say about me or to me.I also attend a Baptist church where there is little taught on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and most do not agree with it. I prayed for this gift for a long time and than when I got it it took me a while to believe it was really the gift of the Holy spirit. It just sounded so strange to me and I allowed satin to lie and tell me it was just a bunch of garble and meant nothing. I have since prayed to God to reveal to me the truth and His word says,"Acts 2:38-39"you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit for the promise is to you..." It is a promise if we ask Him. When I pray in tongues I am built up and encouraged. I believe God is praying a perfect prayer through me. It is a mystery and I certainly do not understand what I am saying but I am certain of one thing God is praying for my needs. I have just started telling family and friends that I have this gift and some have a strange look and tone in there voice and try to put more doubt in my mind that this is from my enemy. So you see what I am trying to say? Not that it is right for me to do that. I am not sure if this is a correct approach or not. Under the circumstances it might be the best approach for now. I am praying for God to lead me to the Church of His choice. I do know about 1 Cor 14. The way I understand this gift is that God seeks people to worship in spirit and truth and He loves for us to pray in tongues. When we speak in tongues in a Church it must be directed from the Holy Spirit and if there is not an interpreter than that is proof that that person should not have spoken out. This is not good for the unbelievers and believers either. A new Christain should be very careful with this don't you think? Well, it is late and I am so tired I can hardly think any longer. Hope this answered your concerns. Thanks for the responce. God Bless, Joann
3 | Joann ... Why not use your gift ? | Romans | Searcher56 | 91910
Joann, Acts 2:38-39 is not about speaking in tongues ... in fact if you read the context, the 3000 didn't speak in tongues. Only twice, Acts 10:44-46 and 19:5-6, of the ten conversion incidents, did the new believers speak in tongues You said "I believe God is praying a perfect prayer through me" ... Are you talking about Romans 8:26-27? If so, I see we pray through the Holy Spirit. He is praying our prayers. It is He who is groaning. 1 Cor 14:14 says your mind is unfruitful when you pray in a tongue. If I misunderstood your point, please clarify. Searcher |

Searcher, Yes I am talking about Romans 8:26-27 And you are right again. I did not say that properly. It is the Spirit praying through us. Wow, you have helped me to think about that in a better way. Now Searcher I went back to 1 Cor 14:14 and I was wondering what you think it means by your mind is unfruitful when praying in tongues? Thanks, joann

Does the Holy Spirit pray *through* us? Whatever the answer may be, the Bible plainly says: "The Spirit Himself intercedes *for* us." (NASB, emphasis added) AMPLIFIED Romans 8:26 So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance. |

Roman 8:26 "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought; but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered .
