Bob has a lot to agree with in his commemts. It is my opinion that Christ's Church should be the same everywere. I can agree that we as a group may see some scriptures in a different way, but we are worshiping the same Christ. Why therefore do we put emphasis on what day to worship or what gifts we receive? I belive that the Bible shows that everyday is Gods day. It also states that Christians should assemble to worship. If we assembled to worship together we could give each other more strength to to resist the temptations of evil. We could learn from each other and with the help of the Holy Spirit, live for Christ. I guess I know the answer to the question why so many denomenations. The Bible answers this also. Evil influnce from the devil and his demons confuse our thoughts and thoses that are not strong will drift away. Thoses newly looking for Christ can be easly misled. You will note that thoses into denominations will fight hard to defend their honor and it will take The Holy Ghost to open their eyes. In case your wondering,I am of the opinion that we should all be Christian regardless of what Church we happen to be in. If we are studing the Bible, praying and resisting evil we will come to Love the Lord and see the light. No matter what group you meet with,Pray and keep searching the scriptures and the Holy Spirit will show you the way. |

Dear JWeaver, I am non-denominational. Historical Baptists have always been distrustful of anything that might have greater authority than the local congregation (see chapter 26 of the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith). Perhaps my position on the topic of denominationalism, therefore, grants me at least some measure of leeway to ask you the following question: Are you seriously implying that all denominations have their origins in Satan? Since denominations came into existence after the fourth century, the Scripture is silent regarding them. Indeed, the Scripture speaks of the church only in two senses: the local congregation and the universal, invisible body of Christ. Consequently, I cannot imagine that your assertion is based in Scripture. However, if I am mistaken, would you please cite specific passages to support your assertion? In Him, Doc |

Doc I did not intend to imply that all denominations have their origin in satan. Some may and others may have become infested. The prince of this earth is satan. He has "blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the Gospel of the Glory of Christ" 2 Cor. 4:3. Paul also wrote in 2 Cor. 11:13-15 of the false apostles, deceitful workmen masquerding as apostles for satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. These are only two of many verses throughout the Bible warning of false teachers. We know that all denominations do not the same Christ. Some do teach the same Christ but then apply man made (satan lead)rules to control your knowledge. Luther was one of the first to buck this kind of system. Others followed as methods of satanic control was discovered. I don't know weather your on milk or meat but keep on reading the Bible and Praying. Knowledge and the Holy Spirit will keep you safe from the enemy. If you are attending a Church thats trying to mislead you, it will become apparent. I'm sorry you misunderstood my comment but glad you gave me a chance to redeem myself. Jesus Christ and his commissioned apostles started the Church. The Bible and the Holy Spirit provide the rules and regulations not man. |

Dear Jweaver, Thank you for the clarification. The church -- in the sense that we are using the word -- is a human activity. Consequently, it will have all the ills associated with sinful men. Denominations were a method that sought to eliminate some of those ills. Churches without denominational influence can be in even worse shape than a denominational church -- see the church in Corinth! In all cases, the wheat grows along with the tares. By the way, even Luther dreamed of a single denomination separate from the Church of Rome. Most of the orginal Reformers had that vision as well. In fact, some very great and Godly men even envisioned a state sponsored church. It is a very difficult question, frought with many different sub-issues, and cultural influence. Some denominations have accomplished great things in the name of Christ. Thanks again for your post. In Him, Doc |
