I just purchased a Dake's Annotated Bible. What do you people think of the Dakes Annotated Bible? | ||||||

Scribe I have a Dake's Bible and use it with great caution. On some things he was most excellent and on other things we he was most terrible. You have to know what is sound and what is junk or you can get into real trouble. He advocated racial segregation which was later revised out. He also had a 9 part trinity, women giving birth from their arm pits, men flying to planets, Pre-Adamic earth or (gap theory), and etc. I believe CRI (www.equip.org) has more information and a better critique. They warn to beware!!! If you need a annotated Bible to help you understand the Bible, Dake is probably not for you. There are many excellent Bibles out their that are far more reliable. However if you want Dake as another reference to give you another point of view then I would say with very careful and judicious use Dake would be ok EdB |

Joe His notes are extensive, so much so, they probably outnumber the actual Bible word for word. Because there are so extensive they many times offer up alternate trains of thought. Some I agree with and others I reject but even those I reject offer another point of view that I feel a need to know about. Quite frankly his Pre Adamic world (gap theory) is an interesting read and one I feel helps me understand that point of view, however I do not hold to it. He does an excellent job of presenting a Pentecostal perspective to many things in the Bible. I also enjoy his view of End Times Theology although I'm not in total agreement with it. I think he handles Daniel’s 70 weeks well. I'm very cautious of his explanation of situations or events that just aren't explained in the Bible. He tends to track a sensational course when offering an explanation of those kind of things. One thing he didn’t do was avoid commentary on subjects most other commentaries ignore. I don’t know how many times I have approached a controversial subject and went to a commentary to see their perspective and found nothing. Dake always seems to step up and address the issue, his answer isn’t always what people want to hear, it may even be out in left field in my opinion, but he had guts enough to let his opinion be known.
