1 | Why should we pray to Mary? | 1 Tim 2:5 | EdB | 26674
Lisa Don't misunderstand me I see a lot of good in Catholicism, I wish the concept of reverence for things holy and sacred would catch on in the Protestant churches. I have seen examples of reverence among Catholics that would put most Protestants to shame. I have also seen a lot of people in the Catholic church that in my opinion are truly saved. However I think there are many in the church that are deceived. In fact if there is anything that could convince me of salvation by election it would be how God saves some in the Catholic church. I have met Catholic priest that in my opinion are not saved, however I have met some that know and love Jesus and depend on him for their salvation. There is two things I disagree with in the Catholic church first the idea of praying to anyone other than God through the name of Jesus Christ, whether it be Mary or a saint I see no biblical justification for it. I know the argument and all but there is no Biblical justification. Jesus said when you pray, pray thusly and then he gave us the Lords prayer. The other point of contention I have is the Catholic belief they are right and everyone else is wrong. I know this was done in reaction to the reformation but I see it as totally incorrect. The Words says if you repent and believe you will be saved, it does not say you have to be a Catholic. I think every other problem within the Catholic church is rooted or has it foundation in one of these two errors and that to me is a problem. Each time I walk into a Catholic church I’m overwhelmed with the awe of God and the reverence to him. I never see children running around the altars like I do in a Protestant churches, I never see people treating the church or the things of the church with anything less than reverence. In Protestant churches I have seen initials carved in the pews. There is a Holiness in the church that I love, however that said many times that holiness doesn’t leave with the people when they leave the Catholic church and to me that is very sad. EdB |

2 | Why should we pray to Mary? | 1 Tim 2:5 | RANDELLO | 26691
AS AN EX-CATHOLIC I AGREE WITH MOST OF YOUR STATEMENTS WITH A COUPLE OF COMMENTS; I DO THINK THE LORD BY HIS OWN WORDS HAS A SPECIAL PLACE IN HIS HEART FOR THE CHILDREN AND DO NOT SEE THE FREEDOM THEY ENJOY IN THE LESS STRUCTURED ATMOSPHERE OF THE PROTESTANT CHURCH AS A PROBLEM. I AM ALSO NOT SURE THAT I WOULD CHOOSE TO CATEGORIZE ANY SERVANT OF GOD AS SAVED OR NOT. IS THIS NOT THE VERY JUDGEMENT THAT YOU ACCUSE THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AS MAKING? |

3 | Why should we pray to Mary? | 1 Tim 2:5 | EdB | 26693
Randello First turn off your caps. All caps on the internet means your yelling. As to your statement I was judging, your right I was Jesus said you will know them by their fruit and the fruit they were producing wasn't in line with Jesus’ teaching. That is not what I accused the church of doing I said they dogmatically say unless your catholic your lost and that isn't true. I you see the freedom for the children I see a lack of teaching, lack of discipline, lack of holiness by both the children and the parents and the problem lies with the parents. God is holy and is to be revered if this isn’t taught it will be lost. EdB |

4 | Why should we pray to Mary? | 1 Tim 2:5 | RANDELLO | 26701
Sorry, I'm not quite up to internet etiquite. Jesus also said, judge not lest you be judged. It is one thing to dissagree with the dogma and another to judge the individual. You spoke of singular people. In our church (church of God), we do teach our children respect and dicipline, however we do allow them to enjoy their interaction with their church family as a child would, this sometimes does result in clild-like exuberance. This was never allowed in a Catholic church. As an altarboy we were taught to do things by rote and not allowed the oportunity to find much joy in our worship. I would like to allow my children to rejoice in their faith not just recite out of fear of dissaproval.

Come to think of it, now that you mention it, we would have had our butts tore up if we misbehaved in church. :) We were good kids. :)
