1 | Church requirements for helping others? | Gal 6:10 | Norrie | 121130
Who can the church help and what are the requirements? My mil is involved in a contraversy at her church because they refuse to help her. They said they can only help widows and orphans and a widow is the wife of one husband and can't have any living children. Is this true? Of course that doesn't stop the pastor from hitting the food bank or this family w/a bunch of fat kids that eat like hogs...

Greetings Norrie - This church must be part of the "Fair-see" sect! Do encourage your mother-in-law to find another fellowship - one that honors God's Word and doesn't make up its own rules about helping others! Blessings, mommapbs PS: I hope that you are being "Jesus in skin" to her and doing everything that you can to assure her of your love and care for her! |

Scripture ... 1 Tim 5:9, Jam 1:27 ............. mommapbs ... The church does honor God's Word as for as the care for widows. Where do you see otherwise. I believe you own that church an apology. Honor widows who are widows indeed; but if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to practice piety in regard to their own family and to make some return to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God. Now she who is a widow indeed and who has been left alone (1 Tim 5:3-5a) A widow is to be put on the list only if she is not less than sixty years old, having been the wife of one man (1 Tim 5:9) Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world (Jam 1:27). |

Searcher - I am sorry that my comments provoked you. From my perspective, the controversy arises from the exclusion of this woman in particular, while the Pastor and his clan are taking advantage of what has been provided by the community. Indeed, we don't have all the details, she may not "fit" a legalistic definition of a "widow" - BUT according to Gal 6:10 we are still to do good to ALL and I think she fits there. Instead of denying her any assistance, perhaps the church might help her by alerting her children to her needs. I'm sorry I was judgmental. A widow is one without a husband (Jesus is the Bridegroom) An orphan is a child without a Father (God is OURS!) mommapbs |
