Greetings Arrow1! The early church fathers were not infalliable. They were just men like us. So, even if all agreed on a particular intepretation of a verse, that does not necessarily make it true. The real question is what does Scripture say? I would also note that many of the early church fathers were addressing the arguments advanced by those who did not see baptism as necessary for salvation, so there was not uniformity of opinion in this matter - even in the early church. Greetings Dalcent! I simply made two points my friend! 1) I said that the early church fathers are not infalliable, which they were not. So, their opinion on issues is not any more authoritative than my opinion. The real issue is what does Scripture say. 2) I made the point that many of the early church fathers writtings were apologetic in nature. Therefore, they were often 'arguing' against the opposite opinion. This fact demonstrates that there were other 'opinions' floating around, right or wrong. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
