1 | being/knowing you are beautiful | Mark 12:31 | Larry55 | 192773 | ||
That passage has always bothered me. True, the Bible presupposes that we all have an enormouse amount of self-love. What then for those of us who hate ourselves such as myself? I have no self-esteem and am filled with self-loathing due to a lifetime of neglect and depression. Help! |

Larry, Read 1 John 3:1-3 then spend some time with God in prayer and then go back and read this passage of scripture again. Do you in your heart of hearts believe this? Now read it again before you answer this note. Now knowing that God cannot and will not lie, what gives you or me the right to hate ourselves. God doesn't hate us so why should we hate ourselves? Now before you go and tell me I couldn't possibly know what it's like, I DO! I've been under a doctor's care for almost four years now for depression. Let me tell you I have days where I don't want nothin from nothin, everyday I can think of a thousand and one reasons to hate and despise myself. I battle with this every single day of my life. But guess what, for every reason I can think of to hate or despise myself there's one I can find one not too. Everyone of em! And ya know what! It all points right back to God and His Son Jesus Christ. Go back to that passage of scripture I gave you. Now read it again. This is how God see's YOU and how He see's ME! Larry Is God telling the truth or is it all just a lie? Hebrews 6:18 tells us it's impossible for God to lie. Hmmm... Take a look at 2 Corinthians 12, study out 2 Peter and spend time in Psalms. When ones heart is embedded in God's Word Then we are able to see ourselves through the eyes of God. Larry this is a can do my friend! Philippians 4:13 always! In Him, lionheart |

lionheart, First.....I love you. Second.....I should never have posted here in the first place. The suicide question was awful. Also, I am hopeless. Others and now you try to help, but I will never get it. I have been trying to be a Christian for a year now and just cannot get it. Third.....I am impressed and envious that you have overcome depression with God, something I will never accomplish. Fourth.....Before now, I thought I did believe 1 John 3:1-3, but I see that I really do not. Granted, God cannot lie, but, following 3:1-3, when I read 3:4-10, my spirit drops to dispair. "Everyone who sins is breaking God's law..." I sin always. God cannot be happy with me. "But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil..." Ouch! That one hurts! "Those who have been born into God's family do not make a practice of sinning..." That must mean that I have not been born into God's family. I guess I have not been saved afterall and probably never will be. "Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God." Well, I love other believers--I love non-believers also. However, I do not live righteously. I doubt that one half of the equation will save me. I do appreciate your response as well as that of docTrinsograce. When responding, you did not know that you were wasting your time with me. I just will never get it right. I'm sorry. |

Larry, There is no such thing as an awful question. God may have brought you here to the forum to accomplish deliverance in your life. Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 12 that the power of God is manifest in weakness. Larry, we're all weak. And we all sin. Everyday! Where it says those who practice sin are not of God refers to those who choose to stay in their sin, those who refuse to repent. 1 John 1:9 God forgives. Can you repent,can you ask God's forgiveness in faith? Ya you can. Hebrews 11:6 non of us will ever please God without faith. We all deal with sin every single day. The key word in the last sentence is deal. Do we deal with our sin or does it deal with us. God told Cain Genisis 4:7 That sin was crouching at the door. He told him that he was not to be mastered by his sin. It's no less true for us today. 1 John 1:9 God is faithful and just. If it's true for any of us then it's true for all of us. Do you have Worldly sorrow or Godly sorrow. Worldly sorrow only leads to death, but Godly sorrow leads to salvation. Moses told Israel, choose you this day life. Isaiah 59:1 God is able. Check it out! God is always faithful! My friend what will you choose. In Him, lionheart |
