1 | Praying for the 'World'. | Matt 5:44 | DocTrinsograce | 163749
Dear AO, Let me see if I understand your doctrine: 1. Regeneration is matter of exercising the will. In other words, it is initiated by a man making a decision. 2. The will cannot be exercised without a sufficent level of understanding. Consequently, men must have a sufficient level of understanding (knowledge) in order to be afforded the opportunity to exercise their will. 3. Without this level of understanding, men will not choose to become saved. 4. With this level of understanding, some men will still refuse to become saved. You pray that God will grant this level of understanding to certain men who are lost. You do not pray that they will be saved, since this would abrogate their free will, but rather that they be afforded the opportunity to choose. Therefore, I must ask: Q1. If God fails to grant this understanding, is He not also preventing them from exercising their will? Q2. If God does not grant some men this understanding, is this not equivalent to rejecting them? 2 | Praying for the 'World'. | Matt 5:44 | Aspiring Overseer | 163772
Doc, I appreciate your confusion as I think you may have misunderstood my previous posts. God created all mankind to chose Him. Many, unfortunately, rebell against God by refusing to chose Him. Matt 6:33 33"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. NAS Luke 11:9 9"And I say to you, ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. NAS Man must first seek before finding. Answers to your Q's: Q1. No, they have already exercised their free will by failing to ask. Q2. No, man has first rejected Him. They do not hear (understand), because of their continued rebellion. Why should God throw pearls before swine? AO |

3 | Praying for the 'World'. | Matt 5:44 | DocTrinsograce | 163813
Dear AO, Context is extremely important. Matthew 6:33 is Christ speaking of anxiety over the need for food, drink, and clothing (see verse 31). Luke 11:9 is a passage in which Christ is discussing prayer (see verse 1). Both passages are instructions to believers in how to live in dependence on Divine Providence. They do not have anything to do with salvation. The soteriological doctrine you are describing is called "decisional regeneration." You might be interested in searching out its origins, and the various arguments of its champions and opponents. In Him, Doc |
