1 | Is it always a sin to lie? | Ex 20:16 | DocTrinsograce | 162006
Dear WOS, You wrote, "In His sovereignty He can and does use our sinful acts to further His plan but I don’t find where He actually rewards us for those acts." I agree... I hadn't seen in the thread where someone was suggesting that anyone is ever rewarded for sin, nor that it is ever condoned. I'd certainly take no truck with such notions. In Him, Doc |

2 | Is it always a sin to lie? | Ex 20:16 | mark d seyler | 162240
Hi Doc, I believe the argument is, if I understand it correctly, that certain sins are required for the right outcome, therefore the right outcome is the reward of certain sins. Does that make sense? Love in Christ, Mark |

3 | Is it always a sin to lie? | Ex 20:16 | DocTrinsograce | 162245
Dear Brother Mark, Not sure who postulated that... There's lots of problems with it, though. If I'm not mistaken, it is an example of the post hoc logical fallacy. Causality cannot be reversed. The major term of the syllogism is stated, but the middle term, is tacit (i.e., "right outcomes are rewards"), which is uncertain. There's a big problem in the major term "certain sins are required for right outcomes." It would take a lot of mental gymnastics to prove that statement. Of course, if either term is not true, the syllogism fails. I wish all that formal logic stuff would come to mind faster for me than it does! In Him, Doc |

4 | Is it always a sin to lie? | Ex 20:16 | mark d seyler | 162254
Hi Doc, I just love you educated folks! :-) All I could come up with was "it just don't work." WOS said it plainly, I think, in that God will sometimes give the outcome He wants in spite of our sin. We lack faith, or simply the determination to follow His Word, and take the easy way out. I couldn't agree with you more than I do: "There's a big problem in the major term 'certain sins are required for right outcomes.'" No matter how many wrongs you try to pile up, you won't make one right. Thankfully, God will always do right! God bless you brother! Love in Christ, Mark |
