Subject: should a catholic marraige be sanctified |
Bible Note: Tim I bow to your linguistic expertise. However I have heard this argument over and over and while what you say is true when viewed from a Greek perspective isn’t it true the words are the same in Aramaic? But even more interesting in the Book of Acts don’t we see Peter taking the position of leader? True it is never declared as such and we do see James as head of the church in Jerusalem, don’t we also see Peter being the first to preach, declaring the essentials of salvation, helping to establish the church direction, and then being questioned on doctrine. If I were to read Acts and do so completely unbiased (which is probably impossible) I believe Peter would emerge in my mind as the earthly leader of the Church. Later Peter is looked to, to give the final stamp of approval on Paul. While Jesus may have used the words Petra and Petros I think the disciples accepted Peter as the governmental leader of the church, the stalwart, the strength. Personally I think the Petros, Petra surfaced after the reformation as an attempt by anti Catholics to discredit Rome. I also think Rome has played the succession of descendants of Peter in the role of Pope beyond believability and what Jesus intended. However I do think Jesus did intend for there to be one church with one earthly leader not the fragmented situation we have today in the Christian church. By the way this subject cost me a perfect 4.0 grade point average I had a very anti-Catholic professor. Even the Dean agreed with my position but would not overule the professor and that cost me a .1 of a point. EdB |
