Subject: Bible version can become an idol? |
Bible Note: Hi Hank, I agree totally with your post and you have chosen a good Scripture to consider to answer Lorenzo's question. I would like to talk also about the verses on both sides of your verse. I would also like to share a Interlinear literal translation which might point out how we can "idolize" the "Word" of God instead of coming to the Person that we might have life. John 5:38, Green's Literal Translation, "And you do not have His Word abiding in you, for (the One) whom that One sent, this One you do not receive." My interpretation of the verse would be to put "Word" in lower case because it is speaking of the word of God, and indeed include the extra pronoun that is not found in most translations. Our belief is in (the One) whom the Father sent, even Jesus. We go to Him to have life. We need to be filled with the words of God, but we need to have Christ abiding in us most of all; and we need to have the love of God in ourselves. Best wishes, From the heart, Ray |
