Bible Question:
Searching a lot in books and the net I see defense and attach to the different translations of the Bible primary with KJV, NASB and NIV, do you think, bible versions can become an idol to a peron? Is there something in the bible about His own Word become and idol? Thanks, Praize the Lord, Regards, Lorenzo Jimenez |
Bible Answer: Lorenzo: The passage you may have in mind is John 5:39, in which Jesus addresses the Jewish leaders, "You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about me." Jesus points out that with all their diligent scrutiny in studying the Scriptures to find eternal life, these learned Jews failed miserably in their understanding of the true and only way to eternal life, which is through Him, the Son of God. ..... I don't believe I'd call a particular fondness for a Bible translation idolatry, but I would call an extreme fixation on a particular version, such as the KJV Onlyists seem to have, a pronounced fetish that can lead to all sorts of bizarre things, such as wholesale condemnation of all other English versions and an absurd and unfounded belief that the KJV translators were divinely inspired and thus totally inerrant in every word of their translation. This is not idolatry; it's plain foolishness. --Hank |
