Bible Note: Just because I joke about my grandma's faithfulness to the KJV (my dad's also) doesn't mean I don't appreciate the years of passionate study and their love and hunger for God's Word. I make fun of the translation issues more so because I feel most get blown out of proportion. God has used the KJV to wonderfully speak to generations of people and I would never try to get my grandma to switch. I hope someday that I'm as versed in the Word as she is. On the other side, I know that the good Lord has used and is using modern translations like the NIV and the NASB to speak to multitudes in a language that doesn't appear so archaic to them. If I thought that reading one version vs another would truly make a person a better Christian, I would do everything in my power to promote that version. Yet, I have realized that it isn't the version that makes you a Christian. It isn't the version that gives you the passion for God's Word. It is God's grace and Holy Spirit that drives and fills the hunger for more of the Word. After years working as a paramedic, I've come to realize how short this brief life on this earth can be. I've seen many people taken from this world before what we would consider their time. I've seen family's weep; I've seen family's being comforted by the knowledge of knowing where their love one has gone. Through all this I have come to two realizations. The first, you must always be prepared for your call to Glory. Secondly, life is too short to be worried about things that are not of eternal value. Worry about the things of eternal value and have fun with the rest! Brad |
