Bible Question (short): Did God honor Jephthah's vow? |
Question (full): 2. Judges 11:30-31 Jephthah made a vow to the Lord that if He were to give the sons of Ammon into his hand that he would offer as a burnt offering the first thing that came out from his doors upon his return. I wonder if God would honor such a vow since this would be a human sacrifice and that to me would be like the people who worshipped Molech and offered their children on the altar. I would like to believe that she like Samuel was given to the temple to serve as a virgin all of her days, but have heard contrary on some commentaries. In this case could Jephthah used the scripture in Leviticus concerning difficult vows 27:1-8, which to me this would be a difficult vow for both him and God, considering what was ultimately being offered in the vow. Or did he actually sacrifice her as a burnt offering? |
