Bible Question (short): Who or what was sacrificed? |
Question (full): Concerning Judges 11, the passages in verses 31-34, where Jephthah makes a vow to the Lord that "whatever comes out of his house to meet him when he returns in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the Lord's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering." Then his only child and daughter comes out dancing and playing the tambourine rejoicing in his victory. What actually was the sacrifice? Was it the daughter's praises? or her life? This is puzzling me. |
