Bible Question:
I cannot find anywhere in the Bible that talks about being rebaptised. I know that my church does this. I thought that once you were baptised you recieved salvation and didn't need to get rebaptised. Then what would be the purpose of this? Can anyone help me. |
Bible Answer: Born Again or Pentecostal Dcotrine of baptism is a result of Christian teachings. Baptism is usually done once, and that is by full emersion in water in the Name of Jesus and is usually by older children (at an age of understanding what it means) and adults. Roman Catholics and non-pentacostalists encourage Baptism of children. Whilst theoretically there is no indication in the Scriptures as to the age when one should be baptised, Jesus however does say; Let the little children come unto me (HIM - Jesus), so whilst the parents opt for a child's baptism it is an act of faith. Baptism is an act of Faith Baptism unto repentence. Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist and the Holy Spirit fell upon him like a dove. Consequently, in the book of Acts The Apostles urged both Jews and gentiles to repent and be baptised. I can understand the need to be baptised twice if the first baptism was as a child, as the first baptism would symbol the faith of the parents in letting the little child come unto Jesus. The Re-baptizatment, if at an older age or an adult could then be the act of the Person's faith based on understanding. |
