Subject: Is God responsible for evil? |
Bible Note: Thanks, Hank, for your response. One correction: I did not write that God is to blame for evil. One more thing I'd like you to notice in connection with the above correction: JV was kind enough to break down what he meant by "responsible," namely primary cause, to answer for, blame, and fault. I responded to each part, saying yes to primary cause, no to answer for, no to blame, and yes to fault. So you see I couldn't give and unqualified yes to responsible. If someone asked me to give an answer without defining responsible, I'd say "no." One thing I've noticed, looking at my answer again: I would have been clearer if I had changed the word primary to ultimate. The same adjective should be applied to fault. In the chain of causes the car maker and the house builder (and the aircraft manufacturer) have a place. The first cause of all events happened at creation by an almighty and good God. So, my references to John 1and 2 Cor were appropriate. |
