NASB | 1 John 3:24 The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 3:24 The one who habitually keeps His commandments [obeying His word and following His precepts, abides and] remains in Him, and He in him. By this we know and have the proof that He [really] abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us [as a gift]. |
Bible Question:
How do we know that we are truly saved? Are there any scriptures that tell us if we are saved? If so, please tell me what they are. Just because I am a pastor does not mean that I really know the right answers. So do not see this as a test that I will grade. :-) Honestly, I do not feel that these questions are discussed enough, so I will not respond except to clarify or ask followup questions. Any comments? Bible Answer: Hi Pastor Glenn, Your question is "How do we KNOW that we are truly saved." 1 John and the gospel of John are excellent books to study about "knowing". How many times are words about knowing used in those books? 1 John 5:11, "And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His (Son). 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life." 1) The one who believes has the witness in himself but the witness of God is greater. Romans 8:16, "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of (God)." 2) We have received the (s)Spirit of adoption as sons. Romans 8:15. 1 John 3:24, "And we know by this that He abides in us, by the (s)Spirit whom [which] He has given us." 1 John 4:2, "By this you know the (s)Spirit of (God): every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God." The parentheses around words are mine for comparisons. The parentheses (s) show that an interpretation is to be made. From the heart, Ray |
