NASB | 1 John 3:24 The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 3:24 The one who habitually keeps His commandments [obeying His word and following His precepts, abides and] remains in Him, and He in him. By this we know and have the proof that He [really] abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us [as a gift]. |
Subject: How do we know that we are truly saved? |
Bible Note: Greetings Doc, Pastor Glenn, and Aixen7z4, - I'd like your input on Incarnational reality (Col 1:27) and practicing the presence of God in our daily lives - I suspect this might be a corollary to "loving His appearing" as mentioned earlier in this thread. I liked the article Doc linked to - How do I know I love God? We read in John 14 that loving Jesus is obeying Him - to me this has the potential for becoming legalistic or "religious". I suspect that obeying Him without the love that He demands (Love the Lord your God with all your heart - what does this look like?)is often lacking in our "works." I've been thinking about "Incarnational reality" for a while now . . . How does the presence of Christ IN us affect our thoughts and actions (or how should it?). . . Unlike David, we need not long for His presence for He is always with us - yet in the dark night of the soul, I admit I have felt pretty alone . . . If He is IN Me and I am in Him - what causes me to think that He is absent at those dark times? Is practicing the presence of God (ie Br. Lawrence)the answer? What scriptures support this? Comments?
