NASB | 1 John 3:24 The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 3:24 The one who habitually keeps His commandments [obeying His word and following His precepts, abides and] remains in Him, and He in him. By this we know and have the proof that He [really] abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us [as a gift]. |
Subject: How do we know that we are truly saved? |
Bible Note: Hi, Ray! I understand what you are saying... however, my emphasis is on the Holy Spirit as God's seal... Jesus told His disciples that He would send the Holy Spirit, this is our seal... this is what makes us part of the Unit: Body of Christ... the Holy Spirit is the one that guides and enlightens our beings awaking in us that desire to call God "Abba!" In the case of Romans 8:15 I would capitalize the second Spirit since it is directly referring to that Spirit which grants us the right to call God our Father! As comparison I refer to the Jesus' words in John 10:34: we are gods... we are essence of God; yet we are not gods with capital "g" but creatures made in God's image and likeness... our spirit, reflective of this relationship, is essence of the Holy Spirit never capitalized unless the reference is a direct reference to the Holy Spirit who dwells in us! I would also capitalize 2 Cor 1:22 and John 3:34... the Holy is in us not just symbolically but tangibly (as much as God can exist in our corporial bodies) and functionally! God Bless! Angel |
