Bible Note: Darcy, I've long been aware of the existence of a period between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. That period is a punctuation mark and nothing more. [You will notice that there is a period (.) at the end of Genesis 1:1 after the word "earth."] ..... Don't tell me you've been zapped by the gap -- the Gap Theory! Verse 1 is a summary statement: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Verse 2 and following pick up the narrative and describe the sequence of events pertaining to God's creation. No "gaps" in the creative process are stated or implied. There is to my knowledge no revelation in Scripture that provides enough evidence on which to build an hypothesis of when God created angels or when Satan fell. Similarly, with the date of His creation of the heavens and the earth. No scientist has ever been able to pinpoint that. We know as much about the time of creation as any scientist knows (but is not likely to admit). We know that God created the heavens and the earth "in the beginning" because the Bible tells us so. --Hank |
