Bible Question:
Brother Moran, "... I don't see anything is the passage that indicates that such a person can never be saved again or can never repent...." "...No where else in Scripture are we told that it is impossible for someone to repent. ..." There is other scripture that speaks of the unforgivable sin of blaspheme against the Holy Ghost: Mark 3:28 "Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; 29but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation"-- 30because they said, "He has an unclean spirit." Luke 12:10"And anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven. " Could it be that these are related to Heb 6 God Bless, Pastor Glenn |
Bible Answer: Hi Pastor Glenn, I think that the post of Tim's that you responded to is excellent and I would like to show you how I think your references relate to Hebrews 6. The only thing that I would change in Tim's notes is the upper case Holy Spirit. I see the people in the passage as having tasted the heavenly gift, tasted the good word of God, having partaken of the holy spirit. They have fellowshiped with the believers and have witnessed their spirit of love. If they blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, then they will be denying the Son of God and will be saying that God's spirit is unclean and not a holy spirit. Here are the verses with some parentheses added for comparisons. Hebrews 6:1b, "let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward (God), of instruction about washings, and laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And this we shall do, if God permits....5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come." Mark 3:29, "but whoever blasphemes against the (Holy) Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"--30 because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit."" Luke 12:10, "And everyone who will speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes against the (Holy) Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him. And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not become anxious about how or what you should speak in your defense, or what you should say; for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say." Matthew 12:32, "And whoevery shall speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever shall speak against the (Holy) Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the age to come." ...verse 34 You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. The good man out of his good treasure brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth what is evil. And I say to you, that every careless word that men shall speak, they shall render account for it in the day of judgment." It is noteworthy that this word of warning is given for each Person of the Trinity. Three times this warning is given. I do not deny the triunity of God; but I believe that we should be made aware of the fact that the words of God are holy spirit. A study of Matthew 12:28 and Luke 11:20 would show the finger and spirit of God. 2 Peter 1:3, "seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by (His) own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become PARTAKERS of the divine nature..." Hebrews 6:5, "PARTAKERS of the holy spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,..." From the heart, Ray |
