Subject: Thank you Jesus for the Cross |
Bible Note: Thank you for your message on the cross it was so challanging, and I agree we need to take up our cross daily - I believe that the cross is our way back into the eternal purposes of God vis - that we be conformed into the image of God's own Son. And our pupose? to show forth the praises of Him who brought us out of darkness into His wonderful light. We have to have a theology that makes us do things, after all we have a commission to fulfill! - I do not believe that the purpose of the cross is to provide us with an insurance policy to keep us out of hell or for that matter get us into heaven - although this may be a sure consequence. The purpose of the cross is that we get back into Gods business - Christ was sent to serve the world, to suffer for the world, to bless every family and nation, to wash the worlds feet, and of course to bring in the kingdom. Jesus said "as the father sent me, so send I you". This is our elect office and calling - Paul quotes the suffering servent passage from Isaiah and now applies it to the church in Romans 8 - we need therefore, to pick it up, (ie the cross, as you rightly expound) we need to make our calling and election sure so that an abundant entry into the kingdom may be ministered unto us. |
